Orioles are a group of birds. In the United States there are several commonly found species, Orchard, found mostly in the eastern part of the country, Baltimore, found in the eastern part of the country, Bullocks, found in the west, Scotts, found in the southwest, Hooded, also found in the southwest, and Altamira and Audubons, both found in the Rio Grande Valley on the border of Texas and Mexico.
Most orioles are either bright golden yellow or orange, though Orchards are a rich Chestnut brown. They are migratory, leaving for the winter with the exception of the Rio Grande Valley birds, which are present all year. They are members of the same family as blackbirds, ictarids. They construct really interesting nests that look like a long bag, swinging freely. There are a large number of different species of orioles found in Mexico, Central and South America.
