I think the best deal of the season is the Canon Powershot A530. It has been on sale at numberous big box stores below $130. That's a good price on a good camera. The A530 was selling for $180 not too long ago. I've recommended this camera within my own family, so I'll be living with the results of this recommendation right along with you. You can use the rest of your budget to buy a decent memory card.

This weekend, Sears (and others, I am sure) have the A540 for $170.

By the time you buy a nice 1 GB SD memory card, you will be approaching your budget. If you can go over a bit, please look at the Canon Powershot A630.

Just google or yahoo Canon SD600 E18. ( at least in canon powershots) E18 is a error message that happends when the lens can't close all the way. Its a design flaw and cannon has been known to be very addament about not fixing it. Here is one story: http://www.e18error.com/canonstory.html...

On my camera it has happend i was able to bang it hard twice on the USB sde and it fixed but i don't know if it always works
