My friend got a puppy to surprise her daughter. I picked it up from the airport a few minutes ago, and I will babysit him until Sunday because that's when she will be surprising her daughter. So...what do I feed him? I don't have any dog food right now and I can't buy any until tomorrow. What should I give him to eat tonight. Is milk ok?

Don't feed him milk!! that's not good for dogs (after their 6th week of age). Cook 2 eggs and smash them, then give it to the puppy; plus, you must provide water for him at all times. The eggs will give him enough protein, just like puppy food does.

So she bought him as a surprise and she didn't even put enough into it to realize it would need food until then? This poor dog first has a breeder that will obviously send them to anyone forking out the money.

Tell her to CALL or email the breeder and find out what it's been fed, it should have come with a small packet of food taped to the top of the carrier. Most airlines won't allow pets to fly without it even if it is a short flight.

Eukenuba puppy food (dried) is very good.

Poor poor puppy.

Mistake #1 He's a surprise.

Mistake #2 He's left with someone who doesn't know how to care for him, the day he left his mother and littermates.

Mistake #3 His new owner doesn't have the sense to provide everything needed to take care of him after pawning him off on someone else for the sake of fitting into their plans.

Mistake #4 He's left his littermates and been put on a plane all in one day, and shipped to a stranger, just to be handed over to another stranger just when he's beginning to settle in.

It's times like this I think dogs have more common sense than people.

Do not feed him cows milk, it will upset his stomach and make him dehydrated. Give him a little ground beef and rice if he will take it, until you can get him a good quality food. Give him water, no milk.

Good luck to the both of you. I have a feeling you'll need it.

Especially after a flight he really should get some food, it's surprising that the breeder did not provide food to go with him..I don't think milk is enough, however, I do know lots of 24 hour stores do carry cheapy pet food (at least here), like 711 or Mac's.. I would consider trying, as a pup needs to eat quite often, especially after travel. If you can get ahold of the breeder, ask what food he's been feeding the pup, as continuing with it at least for awhile will prevent adding stress to his system and causing diarreah, and making the pup feel sick...

You should have gotten an answer on this before you got the puppy! if you feed him anything other than what he's already been eating, he will probably get diarrhea! Just give him water for now & get dry puppy food in the morning.

Puppy food. Can't you go to walmart, meijer, a gas station or something thats open 24-7? Milk isn't really enough.

if it's not possible to buy any dog food right now, you can just offer what you have and he'll eat what suits him,,, no worries. :)
