...have no idea about a subject, other than ways to deride it, bother commenting?
Ok you get your two points, but unless you've got a well informed opinion about tattoos..shush!!
I've noticed that the more open minded people on here tend to have tattoos and piercings, and that includes the "older" ones! Gypsy is my hero! I hope to have her attitude when I'm her age!
Anyway, feel free to rant at me about how I'm "not honouring" my body, and I'll show you a thousand ways you probably treat yours worse...unless you're a strict organic recycling type person, in which case, kudos!
Ok, rant over with, so whats your favourite tattoo and why?

Toe honey, you just stole the words right outta my thoughts...way to go! Rant to me any day.
Anyways, I have always loved tattoos and the art of doing it. I am not a tattoo artist, hell, even my stick figures are crooked but, I just love to watch them being done. Ever since I saw my first one, I knew I had to get one. I got my first one at 36. A late B-day present to myself. The stargazer lily on my back is 1: My favorite flower 2: It reminds me that there is beauty in pain 3: It actually helped my pain ease. What I mean by that is, I had an accident when I was 14 and have had a really screwed up back since then. The tatt is in the exact spot that never quits hurting. I have been relatively pain free since August this year.
The tatt on my leg is for my hubby. he inspired me to do it. I love the ocean and all things tropical in it.
I am chasing my dream of being inked up by the time I am 40. I'm off to a running good start. As for my fav tatt I have seen on someone else, A tree that an artist by the name of Pavel Angel out of Moscow, Russia is my favorite. His work is truly amazing!
I have included the links to pics of mine. Enjoy :)

I loved your rant! I've had several rants of my own and its nice to see other people are as bothered by the small minded attitudes on here as I am! I get sick of the "tramp stamp" comments i keep reading and what the hell is with people saying that tatts will look gross when you're old and wrinkled?!?!? That makes no sense to me what-so-ever! My butt is going to be old and wrinkled when i'm 60 with or without tattoos! Thank you for your rant, I think I've just joined in ;)
I only have one tattoo - Its my family coat of arms (I'm Scottish decended) on my lower back. Its about 12cm diametre and its pretty colourful with a sort of belt looking circle with a bulls head in the middle and 'hold fast' written around the top of the circle. I've wanted this tattoo for about ten years and only got it last month because I got married this year and am changing my name so I feel that my heritage is still a part of me now. I'm very much in love with it :)
I dare someone to tell me know that my body is god's body and i've just destroyed it!!! Bring it on ;)
You rock, nice thread!

THANK YOU! I am so glad there are others who feel the way I do. Why even answer a question about tattoos if you don't agree with them. I love all of my tats and you rant. I am also getting a tat of the cross from my church.

It's always ok to rant when you have something to say!!! I got my first tattoo when I was 19...my parents were sooo mad...but then they got over it, now I'm working on my whole upper back...my favorite so far is my last name on my back. The reason I got that there was because no matter what my last name changes to when I get married, I will always be who I am now.

I have no tattoos. I have always wanted one. I love looking at them. And even more so at the ones that have meaning. I told my girlfriend that has lots of tattoos that I wanted a ying yang on my big toe and she said no. That wasn't a good idea. She is my best friend and she has lots of tats. I respect her answer. I say and think if you want one get it, just rrememeber it is permanent.

Rock on! I loved your rant.
"...feel free to rant at me about how I'm 'not honouring' my body, and I'll show you a thousand ways you probably treat yours worse..." So true.
Until recently, I didn't really like tattoos, but I started finding more and more examples of how--given the proper placement and design--some people can look absolutely stunning in them. (Strangely enough, when I became more open-minded I started to like piercings and tattoos more than I did in my more conservative phase.)
As for my favorite tattoo, it really depends on the person. As for colors, they aren't necessary, but if they're going to be there, I like them bright.
As for the image itself, I like a wide range of designs. Faeries, angels, demons, skulls, hearts, kitties, etc.
As for text, I'm a sucker for stuff in foreign languages. It just seems exotic. (I'm thinking about getting tattoos in Greek and Latin.)
As for placement, I like them on the collarbone/chest, bicep, shoulder and back. Where it looks best totally depends on the person.
Overall, my favorite part about tattoos is talking to the person and hearing his/her story on why they chose the particular design and location.

My ex constantly advised me it became because of the fact he enjoyed me, as he became attempting to make an apology for the black eyes and attempting to make excuses for his behaviour. curiously the thought-approximately loosing me made him mad, and that i made him mad by making him experience jealous even although i by no skill meant to do something to make him jealous. I even tried by no skill leaving the domicile until after darkish and easily ever doing as he reported and needed yet there have been constantly excuses as to why he could get mad adequate to injury me. I only think of its something they cant administration and that they cant clarify whether they attempt to think of up the clarification why.
