Hello

Right now we have a six pound female chihuahua over here and we are waiting for her to breed with my male. So far he has mounted her a thousand times but he cant seem to get his penis in her? As bad as this sounds is there anything that i can do to help the process along? We really want them to breed but im not sure if he knows what he is doing because it is his first time....... So is there anything that I need to do to help of will they figure it out? Please help she is already in her third week of heat and she is not mine she is a friends and needs to go home in a couple of days so we really need this to work.

Ok I think that everyone is misunderstanding me....I said my male is having problems not the female she will stand in front on him with her bottom in his face and her tale to the side but when he gets up to enter her he is either missing and rubbing against her leg or he just gives up. If I try to help him he gets off.......Also I noticed a little spot of blood in my kitchen today so I think that even though we thought she was done she might still be bleeding a little bit wil this make a difference?

Also I wanted to ad to the smart comment that the beautiful girl is OVERSIZED ! ! ! ! Here is a copy and paste from the AKC breed standard.

A well balanced little dog not to exceed 6 pounds. Proportion The body is off-square; hence, slightly longer when measured from point of shoulder to point of buttocks, than height at the withers. Somewhat shorter bodies are preferred in males. Disqualification: Any dog over 6 pounds in weight.

You didn't say how much your male weighs or if he is smaller than the female. I will assume he is smaller & suggest that you give him something stable to stand on...they usually figure out how to get it! A female is in heat usually for 20 days...you can usually tell when she is ready by the fact that she no longer barks or growls at him & allows him to mount her. However, it may well be that she is already past her time!

If she is not letting him, than she has passed her breeding time and you will have to wait until her next season. If your male is much smaller than her, you may need to get him a phone book to stand on to give him a bit of a boost. If that doesn't work, you can try guiding his penis while he is mounting her, and hopefully it will work. If it still doesn't work, you may need to go to the vet for an artificial insemination (which the female's owner traditionally pays for). Good Luck!

She is probably past the optimum time for her to be bred. Has she been there thru the start of her heat? You may just have to wait until the next time around.

She's already done, you probably won't get a breeding. Thank heavens, she's oversized!! You could still do an AI but I'm hoping you don't know how.
