Don't you think that a lot of Atheists and Christians here debate without really fully understanding both sides? I'm not generalizing, but I find that a lot of nonbelievers and believers ask questions that are actually part of the basics of each side. Don't you think that the people of both sides should first stop and investigate both sides before talking?

No, Jesus doesn't hate atheists. Jesus cannot hate, for He is capable of only infinite love.

The real reason I ask this is not to look for an answer, but for an ally. But thanks. :)

Jesus is only capable of infinite love? That is a marvelous insight that the majority of Christians seem incapable of recognizing. Yes, I think both sides are reacting to stereotypes, deliberately misunderstanding, looking for enemies to bash rather than trying to understand. But I also find many questions to be insincere, mere opportunities to strike first rather than genuinely curious inquiries. This inflames the general cynical attitude on either side.

The best questions, the ones that really want to learn, provoke the best answers. But too many people are worried about their own doubts and prefer to bolster their opinions by taking potshots at their perceived antagonists. Each side has points to make, even though they hate to admit the possibility.

My own experience of this site is limited, but I get the impression that people on either side, and sometimes on the same side, don't actually understand the forms of language that others are using.

I find it very difficult to talk about spiritual matters, or the the deepest parts of my own belief system without resorting to metaphor. I don't know any other way of communicating about such things. It's pretty clear that some users of this site aren't getting where I'm coming from, and take what I say in very concrete, literal ways.

One of the reasons I write on Y!A is to try to find a way around this impasse. I'd have to say that the Religion and Spirituality section is one of the hardest communication challenges I've come up against!

I also see a lot of questions that are cheap shot insults from both sides. I believe some from both sides can be very judgmental and hypocritical. I think its really sad and almost pointless to debate religious viewpoints. From what i see most just cant tolerate what others believe and a lot of times they both force their beliefs/disbelief's on eachother. It is a battle that can never be won. If your belief system works for you, whether its atheism or Christianity, then don't try to make it work for someone else. Just be content you have the right to believe/not believe whatever you want. And leave everyone else alone. Otherwise, you are no different then the things you complain of others.

People are going to debate whether there Atheists or Christians. Everyone is bound to debate.

But yes, I absolutely agree with you. People should stop and "investigate" both sides before talking.

Maybe they just like getting other peoples opinions though. If you get someone elses opinion, it might make you think a different way.

I agree with you. Believer here. I think the concept of debate requires information on both sides. Not to mention the fact that believers are called to not judge, but to love everyone.

Someday you may see a post from me. Watch for questions on:

Here, here that is so right I have been on both sides so i know where unbelieves are coming from, and i don't fright with them i just try and tell them that God loves them more than they can ever image and i know that its hard for them to believe i also know that it is their choice which way they go. I can only tell them what i know then its up to then weather they believe or not.
may Jesus bless you and Merry Christmas

Yes, I totally agree. That's why I ask questions to Athiests because I don't understand. I guess I expect serious answers but that doesn't happen, thank you for bringing it to my attention.

I think that if Atheists were to stop and truly investigate the Christian faith well....they would be Christians!

I think it's a free country and people should be able to say whatever it is they want to say.

On the contrary, there are things listed in the Bible that God hates, and if God hates them Jesus would also, but not people, just sin.
