I suspect you've misread those last three letters, similarly to how some people new to the internet mistake "lol" as "iol". What may have happened is you actually sent a shortcut file which points to your .doc file; shortcuts have a .lnk (LNK just to be super clear, hehe) extension. If you sent the shortcut alone to someone else, it'd just sit there pointing to a file (the .doc) that doesn't exist on their computer. Try sending the document again, but make extra sure you're selecting the right file this time. :)

Everybody is reading this wrong.......nobody sends a shortcut to anyone. Some way along the route a .doc file is converted to a .lnk file...yes converted. This is caused by either a corrupted registry or a virus.
In my case any file coming into the PC form the USB ports were converted to .lnk file. It did not make a difference if the file came from a flash memory, a hard disc, a camera or MP player. I tried two well known anti-virus programs and a anti-malware program and found nothing.
It took AVAST 30 day free trial to find the virus, is was a Trojan called 'acmitazaap..vbs' placed in into the chest and the conversion stopped but I still have a lot of files that I have to correct their extensions. The internet is not very clear on how to do this....but for my .doc and .jpg files I just open then in the source and copy and print them, because if you take them out of the source they will not open. . This can be a drag if there are a lot but it's better than losing them.

You can change the extension file that you've download. Just do this..
1. Click on the file "___.ink"
2. Right click and click rename.
3. remove the ".ink" with ".doc"
Thanks. I hope this could help you..

For one thing, the computer to which you uploaded and downloaded would have to have the same kind of software.
Ok, to solve this, you should try downloading the .ink file and then change the extension to .doc.
If you don't know how to do this, IM me on Yahoo! and I'll help.
