there is a kid in one of my class whom I will call "steven." Well Steven said that he "swears to God" but doesn't beileve in God and gets all upset when a fellow class mate ask him if he believes in him and why he doesn't. Is he right for getting upset?

One of the problems with the public eduction system is that it must also tie into the interests of the government - that is, it has to try at all times to be politically correct. To that effect, any time you witness such things you have to diffuse the situation but do it without actually supporting or dismissing either view.

As far as you're concerned, in the eyes of the school and the government, he does not have the right to disrupt the class by getting upset at something like that. However, you also have to remember that in his eyes, because he most likely has been taught to be this way, he is completely right for asserting his beliefs.

Hopefully the whole thing blows over quickly, students are quick to get distracted, but talk to or summon a school councillor if it doesn't and above all remember not to get sucked into the religious discussion unless you are confident of being able to present a purely objective approach.

Whether he's right or not for getting upset depends on HOW the others were asking him those questions, I think. If it was in casual conversation and he got upset, it makes me think that he's unsure of his own beliefs. If they were hounding him on the issue, then he has the right to be upset, in my opinion.

And I don't like it when atheists swear to God, either. I don't like it when Christians swear to God. I don't like it when ANYBODY swears to God. One of the commandments is to not use the Lord's name in vein, and swearing to God is definitely inappropriate. Personally, I would kindly tell him that him swearing to God offends me based on my personal beliefs and ask him not to do so around me (maybe he'll stop everywhere else, too).

He has anger issues. I like to think that it is okay to feel angry, but generally not okay to act on it. Steven introduced the topic, so no he shouldn't be upset when someone else tries to join the conversation.

He shouldn't get annoyed unless they do it in a hateful way, or constantly ask him when they clearly know the answer already. As for swearing to God, there's no big deal with that either. The whole "I swear to God" concept is just a common mannerism anyway, even some of the atheists I know do it out of habit.

Yes, that's Steven's personal business.

It's not right at all. It is a sin called using the Lord God's name in vain and it is blasphemy. That kid needs to learn that if he wants to be atheist, that's fine, but not to offend others with his attitude towards God, because there are many who do believe in God.

It certainly doesn't make sense.

If you have the strength and know God, you can try to heal him.
