Limewire and other P2P applications are perfectly legal. The unauthorized distribution of copyrighted materials is illegal. As long as you don't distribute copyrighted material, you're fine. As far as your chances of getting caught, one never can tell. It mostly depends on how many illegal files you offer for upload, not how many files you download as many people believe.

Limewire itself is not illegal and is suppose to be used only to share files. However, most people do not use it for legal file sharing. Most people use it to download and copy songs and videos with out paying for them. This practice is illegal, but the number of people involved is so great your chances of getting caught and successfully proscecuted are slim and none. The main problem with Limewire and other P2Ps is that they leave your sytem open to all kinds of attacks - viruses, keyloggers, trojans, spyware, adware, etc. etc. You better have a very good security system in place if you plan to use Limewire because your system will get infected.

It's not illegal by itself. Sharing copyrighted material is illegal. If you share uncopyrighted material or material to which you hold the copyright, it is perfectly legit.
If you share copyrighted songs, you could get caught. The RIAA has people watching for this. When someone connects to you with a peer to peer connection, your IP becomes known to them. If they want to discover your identity, they have to go through your Internet Service Provider. Whether your ISP has to reveal your identity to them is still not decided. Some do and some don't, but they are not legally obligated to reveal your identity.
It's bad to share copyrighted material because it takes money away from the copyright holders. This is bad because it forces many of them to seek other means to make money and we won't get the benefit of this music. While the highly publicized cases of Britney Spears and Metallica don't get much sympathy, and maybe deservedly so, the real losers are the smaller acts that would sell, if they're lucky, 100,000 records in a perfect market. Downloads are killing those acts and it forces them to keep their day jobs and not focus on their art.
If you like it, pay for it. If anything, it's like a tip for good service.

It's illegal when you copy copyrighted music, videos, etc. But you can change the search method so it doesn't show you copyrighted songs. That's what I do, it will tell me if it's copyrighted. Then I can choose to download or not, to take the risk or not. I wouldn't worry so much though, most of the music through limewire is all shared.

Copyright laws
Doing that is illegal (In some cases)
You wont get caught
I personally don't think its that bad.
I think its bad to illegally get things, but if you think about it your not gonna get it anyway if you did want to buy it you would so they're not really losing any money since you probably wouldn't of bought it in the first place, because i doubt anyone would all of a sudden decide "I want to illegally download something for no reason". Even though i don't think they don't really lose money from illegal downloads I still think it's wrong.

It is illegal because you aren't purchasing the music you are downloading it for free. It doesn't matter if you don't sell the music you are still downloading stolen products. There is a very very low possiblity that you will get caught in fact I have it two of my computers in my house. It is bad because you are stealing music. The producer of the music doesn't get the profit.

Limewire itself is not illegal. It is a website used for file sharing. You can put songs on it. It is the people who put copyrited material that are doing the crime. You are only supposed to put uncopyrited materials on it, but not many people do.

Limewire is good for download music for personal use, but the only bad thing about it is if you aren't very good with computers and files, you might accidentally download a virus.

It's illegal because it's a pirating software. The software itself is legal, but the infringing of copyrights of songs and what not isn't.
The odds of getting caught are slim to none.
