The small orange light is a "check engine light". Under normal operation it lights up when you turn on the ignition and should go out as soon as the engine fires up. If it stays on then it is indicating there is some problem with your engine. The cars engine control unit (ECU) monitors several sensors on your car and the light illuminates if one of them detects a fault. This light could indicate: problem with airflow into engine, detecting a misfire, failure of catalytic convertor etc. You normally need to take the car to a dealer and they plug a computer into the ECU and extract a fault code. This will tell them exactly what is wrong with the car.

"Check engine" light, automatic test at start up. If it goes off after starting, all is normal. If not, check the engine.
