This is a tough argument. It's really up to the individual's preference. Before I go into my opinion, I would advise you to go to an electronic store and make the judgment for yourself. You are the one who will be looking at it everyday, not us.
LCD has sharp and vibrant colors. Some like the sharpness and colors, but I personally think LCD's have an oversharp picture with oversaturated colors. Plasma has a soft picture with deep colors, which I personally think is the magic combination for a great TV. Only disadvantage that people will say with plasma is that it burns-in easily.
As a plasma owner, the answer is "yes", it can burn-in, but this requires you to watch the same tv station or content all the time. For example, if you watch CNN with a ticker bar on the bottom, it will eventually burn in. Since I flip between 10 favorite channels, I don't see an issue.
Price is not really an issue, since both are almost the same in price. LCD's are good for small TV's. Plasmas start at 40", where LCD's can be found as small as 6-8 inches.

Basically, it is all about personal preference..
but here are some things to consider:
-LCD tv's are pretty much immune to burn-in, whereas plasma tv's still have a higher risk of burn-in (although it is getting better and better)
-Once the plasma display burns out, you are pretty much ready to buy a new tv, because to fix it would cost almost as much as a new tv, LCD can potentially be expensive, but it usually the bulbs inside that burn out, which are easily replaceable.
-LCD's generally have a longer life expectancy.
-LCD tv's can get "ghosting" when playing games or movies that have fast movement, plasma is immune to this.
LCD tv's work with pixels, and sometimes they can die, leaving a little dot on the display with no picture(I have many LCD displays and have yet to encouter this). Plasma tv's will not do this.
They both have nice picture, they are both wall-mountable, and they both are available in HD standards.
My personal preference is the LCD televisions. Whenever I go to Best Buy and compare Plasma and LCD's picture, LCD always come out on top. **This is just MY OPINION though**

LCD. Plasma bulbs burn out very quickly and they also have the risk of having an image burned into the screen (remember old computers before screensavers?). LCD's have the same quality picture (as long as you go with a decent brand). Also if you have a bright house with lots of windows, plasma TV's have a bad glare problem, LCD's do not.

Given this debate about LCD vs Plasma,
Plasma
Pro:
-Supurb Black levels, Plasma has the best replication in recreating the black levels. Just in the way it is designed.
-Colours are really good in Plasmas.
-Good refresh rate.
-Good in Darker room environments (Basement)
Cons:
-Burn in, but same with everything. Given the right circumstances you can just about burn in anything. Nothing is truely burn proof. You just have to be smart about it. If you don't believe me that and LCD can burn in ... I can take you a bet ... leave and LCD on for 10 hrs a day for a couple of months with the same image on the screen. This is a bit extreme, but illustrates my point.
LCD
Pro:
-1080P Systems available.
-Good for gaming
-Good in Bright room situations
Cons:
-Burn in if given the correct circumstance.
-On standard definition or regular tv signal, the picture does not look that great. If you tend to look at skin tone colours you tend to notice that most of the people lack a bit of skin tone colours.
Overall, I would say to you - take a look at the screens and see which ever one suites your needs. Also find out about exchange warranties if you are not satisfied with your purchase see if you can exchange your tv.

Keep in mind that LCD's are not burn proof...if a static image is displayed on it long enough it will burn it, same as any tv.
