if you want xp-sp2 put disk in drive boot to cd when prompt comes up you will have choices install os or repair choose repair. if you don't want xp-sp2 you need a bootable disk with fdisk., and format files.
If this is the case boot and type fdisk at the drive prompt delete all partations then partition the drive with maximum space, reboot and then format the drive (C:). gl

You need a bootable disk. Either a disquette or a bootable CD. This will allow your computer to startup and atleas recognise some of your hardware (such as your hard drives).

On this boot disk, you should have a "format.exe" file.
When typed at the command prompt (looks like this) :

A:\>

A:\> format c:

And then hit enter

It will ask you to confirm the process, which will wipe the Operating system from the hard drive.

Note: A format, contrary to popular belief, does not eradicate permanently and irrevocably all data on a hard drive. There are forensic data retrival methods that can read datat that has been overwritten or "wiped" up to 5 times!

Just insert the OS installation disk and boot up your computer. Windows will begin the reinstallation process. When prompted, instruct your computer to format the hard drive using NTFS. (Note: in addition to wiping out the old OS, this will also erase everything else on the hard drive.) Continue with the install and you'll be running fresh.

Insert the Windows Xp instalation CD and restart your PC. Press repeatedly any key, except Delete to enter instalation envoirement. If you haven't succeded you must enter BIOS and select from there the first boot device to be the CD-ROM. You enter Bios by pressing delete after restart. From the instalation enviroment you follow the instructions. I don't know them exactly but are easy to follow. You will be asked to select the partition, format the partition(in NTFS best), and install there. Be carefull by formating the partition you delete all data from it. This is a problem especcially if u don't have more then one partition.
