For the last 2 months my 5 month old puppy favours his right front paw for a few days. I am wondering if he is suffering from growing pains or if this is something else.
It doesn't seem to bother him much. He still runs around like normal but when standing he doesn't put his full weight on it.

He is a doberman. I think that he was the runt of the litter, and saldy left at the pet store for way too long so when we were given him we was already small for his age. It seems like since we have had him his has tripled in size, and we have only had him for 2 months. He went to the vet right after we got him and he got a clean bill of health, other than he had worms, but he was treated for those.
*Note No I did not buy a puppy from a pet store he was a gift to my son from his father.

This only happens for a few days, not everyday for the last 2 months. I do plan on taking him to the vet, but just wanted to know if it was possible.

Absolutely! It is called Panosteitis.

Best to check with a vet though, just to be sure it isn't something more serious.

My ridgeback got a limp in his front leg around 4 months, the vet said if it goes away in a short time then it should be fine..and it did. with yours, it hasn't gone away yet, you should take him to the vet.. Make sure with large growing puppies, you really shouldn't take them for runs or for any strenuous exercise until they have stopped growing (my breeder told me over a year), so make sure you don't take him for long runs or anything. I was told by the vet to keep him quiet for a few weeks, to let it heal, as playing hard all the time will keep damaging it. So keep him on leash, and restrict his running and playing to a minimum. Some large dogs can have really badly developed hips and elbows from when they were developing and got injured. I was told also slipping on tile or running up and down stairs also screws up the legs, if the dog is constantly doing it. Just keep an eye on him, I may consider taking him to the vet, and just try to keep him calm (I know its hard with a 5 month old pup). Good luck!

It could be possible that it is just that....growing pains. If he maybe starts to chew on his leg then that may be showing that it is that he is growing. Call your vet and speak to him over the phone to see if this is something that needs to be seen by him or if you could just watch it at home and if it does not stop then maybe your vet should check it out. My puppy did not experience this but she chewed on her legs like it bothered her some but she was growing. If her legs, where it bends, look like they are getting to look like knots, then your puppy is going thru some growing pains, mine had that happen and so did my 3 yr old dog.

as long as the dog isnt limping, hes just find. large dogs like mastiffs and irish wolfhounds tend to have more joint problems than small dogs. you have a puppy so hes still growing. and maybe he's a righty.
