Maybe I'm wrong on this, but in Canada they're taking down the Christmas in the City Hall because of complaints from other religions that goes against them.
I say, if you don't like the customs, don't come to the country.
Why should they be respected when these religions come to us and don't respect us?

Other religions cultures should blend in. It is like that in the US also. Celebrating Christmas, and Jesus' birth, and having a Christmas tree are part of being American.

While I'm thinking about it, so is learning English.

I kinda agree w/ Canada on this one. I am a Christian, but any Christmas theme relates to Christ and violates the seperation of chuch and state. I know that having a Christmas related item on display in a government building doesn't make that country only Christian, but, at the same time, its symbolic of that. Be a Christian, and be it loudly, but keep it out of the government or some one within that government will abuse the glory of Christ for their benefit by saying that everything they're doing is ordained by Christ. That's what happened in the Middle Ages. The Catholic church back then was a political institution, not a church.

Isn't religion a personal thing? Are you being prohibited from practicing your religion? Why would you want your government to provide you with religious displays? Is being a christian a requirement for citizenship? What's wrong with worshiping at home or other religious organizations like church? I think you might see things differently if your city hall was dedicated to promoting Islam. Anyone who says that having the government stay out of religion is taking away your right to celebrate you religion publicly is either very dishonest or very dumb.

I agree with the first comment. Not every country is a religious state by law, and so every religion has a right to put up it's things of worship.

I would never insist on a Christmas Tree be taken down because I am not a Christian, but I would expect the same courtesy extended to my religion.

Would you support me putting up a giant Yule Log and images of the Oak and Holly Kings??

"I say, if you don't like the customs, don't come to the country."
ummm then f*&k of back to Europe, sook
People have every right to complain, and openly. Dont like it, tuff sh!t.
No doubt christians are the ones who in the end decided to take the christmass stuff down, go complain to your christian authorities.
Most people know exactly what christianity is all about.
Most times its not people in the other religions doing the complaining, its some do gooder christians that think they are doing some good work which clearly is turned against the other religions that said nothing and done nothing about christmass.

Most of the people who object to these things are objecting for other people. Case in point: A Jewish figure skater was appearing in Florida, and they made the high school choir stop singing Christmas carols because she might be offended. Turns out, she is participating in Christmas tree lighting ceremonies all over the country. She wasn't offended, but someone else thought that she might be, so they they made them stop singing.

I'm assuming you meant Christmas tree . . . ?

Requesting a Christmas tree be taken down from a public area doesn't necessarily equate to disrespecting a religion.

I'm not saying either side is right or wrong; I'm just not sure that I understand why you feel your religion is being disrespected. It's not being widely accepted and appreciated as it probably has been in the past, but I don't quite understand this to mean the same as disrespect.

God is not prepared to respect religions or beliefs that are contrary to what he has commanded. God showed himself in Sodom & Gomorah, the flood, the tower of babel, at the death of his son Jesus when people came out of the tombs and lived again, and he will show himself again at the battle of armageddon.
God will take over this world again and it won't matter what man thinks, and those that want to be in his kingdom will be there and shouting victory.
I agree with you, if you don't like the customs of the country, then go back to where you came from.

well, would you be okay if Hindu's set their deities up in your City Hall? would you be okay if the Wiccans set up a Pentagram in your City Hall? can the Buddhist sets up some prayer wheels in your City Hall?

America and Canada are not homogenized Christian countries so it looks like you'll have to wait to get to your Christian exclusivity club in the sky before you can have your Christians ONLY world.
