I have a small business and i just cannot give up. I am getting deeper and deeper in debt but everyone keeps saying don't give up, things will get better. I have dreams of things piling up on me and caving in but i just cannot say "I quit". Its the hardest thing in the world for me.

When it consumes me to the point that my health is negatively affected.

I had a job that I loved, but it was killing me with stress. I had to do something different to gain perspective.

You are the only one who can make the call on your business, but ask yourself what else you'd rather be doing. If you can't think of anything, keep plugging away. Just make sure you have healthy outlets for the stress and that you still have a roof over your head. :)

I had my own small business that, after three years, I finally had to close. Sit down and take a close look at the books - is it lack of customers? Maybe you're just in the wrong business. (Over 50% of all restaurants fail because of bad planning.)
In the end, which will be harder, saying "This isn't working." or paying off the debt you've accumulated?
You can always try something else.

First of all, do you have some kind of a written tracking method to find out what areas you are weak in? Lilke, what you would have to work on in order to make your business work?

If you had some form of measurement on paper of your activities you are to be doing and not to be doing, that would help you determine if you should keep going.

I've been in your shoes. I ended up finding another business that works, but my struggles with my first one made me stronger and successful with the one I'm doing now.

As far as encouragement? All success is a series of failures. So, no one became successful without many failures, so as long as you don't quit in being an entrepreneur, you will make it.

Before quitting anything, find out WHY it's not working.
Check into the SBA (small business assn) in your area for assistance. Is there a need for the product/service you're providing? If there is NOT, that's the problem.
If there IS a need, then there's something required to improve your business processes.

You a definitely a fighter. Don't let your self get to deep in debt. You will have to get yourself out. Have you tried changing things. Reorganizing, relocate, advertise, find some way to get your business known. Think about supply and demand. Is there a need for what you sell? Are your prices to high? Sometimes if you lower your prices, it will draw more people in and hopefully sell more. Ask for consumers input on what they would like to see and have. Good luck!!!

I always kept an inspirational message on my desk. I almost quit something too. It just got too hard and I didn't have much encouragement. I found a new way of doing what I was doing, and not only succeeded but ended up way beyond what I thought I could do.

By simply saying, "I quit." But first give a month or two to pass after the Iraq Study Group's official report comes out......
