I want to buy a German Shephard, I just absolutely love the way they look, they are such beautiful dogs. I know they are used for law enforcement and protection, but can they be just a family pet that can get along with children and yet still be protective...please help

German Shepherds can be wonderful family dogs! Just be sure that you choose your new dog carefully. Make sure you see the parents - in person - to determine their temperament. They should not be too shy or too pushy. Aggression or fearfulness are both undesireable traits in pets. Seek the advice of a good dog trainer early on - often they can help you locate a good source. (Dog trainers often see the best and the worst of what is available in your local area so they can be a great resource.) Also, be sure that your breeder has screened for congenital problems - especially hip dysplasia. It is terribly common in German Shepherds and can result in a shortened lifespan and extreme pain/arthritis - not to mention loads of money for surgery and care.

Good luck!

I had a German Shephard and I know people who'd have them. And there honestly, perfect dogs! There a good guard dog. And there great with children. My dog was so easy going and never bugged a soul. And he was playful. But would never even hurt a fly.

But, if your thinking about getting one.. GET ONE. Labs are also great dogs too!

Yes i have a beautiful, friendly, and shy german shephered named Sparky. He is also very protective. Check to make sure the dog doesnt have hip promblems before you get this bread since this is a common disibility in this bread. Good Luck!!

Yes, they are the best with a lot of loyalty. All specially trained dogs are trained to be overly aggressive. German Shepard's are highly intelligent. Have a dog gone great holiday.

Oh they're the two beautiful. The Belgian Shepherd is slightly unusual to surely see around and extra human beings will ask what breed it extremely is. yet as stupid! stated, do slightly study . i think that's what you're attempting to do by asking right here. i'm so happy you have not long gone for the staffie ! it is so boring to have the comparable breed as anybody else.
