Glucosamine and chondroitin work extremely well. When I first got my dog, she would literally just walk, slowly too. She is only 4, but was kept outside in a kennel all year round and is very heavily boned so she was achy. After 2 weeks of the supplement she was running and playing.

Is your dog on a senior food? These help immensely. Also, if you haven't already, get him an orthopedic bed to cushion his old joints and make sure it is out of any drafts.

Baby aspirin could help ease the pain. Don't give ibuprofen or tylonel...they could kill your dog if the dosage is wrong! I would start him on glucosamine right away...lots of people find this very beneficial for arthritic dogs. Good luck!

Do not try Ibuprofen, it can cause liver damage and death. Try a baby aspirin and glucosamine. The glucosamine takes at least 30 days to help but it will work.

The suggestion to give your dog glucosamine is a good one. It helps cartilage retain more fluid and helps the joints move more freely. It has to be taken every day for a few weeks for it to work, though.
