Had a tooth cut out, and now have a terrible thing called dry sockett. How long can this last. The doctor's packing hasn't worked. Can any thing else stop the pain?

Clove oil did the trick for me, and I would guess that's what your dentist/doctor is packing it with? I know a friend who had to go in every other day and get it "re-packed." If the clove oil isn't working, you need to talk to your doctor and make sure you don't need an antibiotic or something stronger for pain.

Mine went away in a day, other people I've known, it's been more like a week - but the clove oil killed the pain.

Healing depends on your defensive mechanism so it is different from one person to another.
If you smoke that delays healing and also you need antibiotic besides the packs and a mouth wash containing clorohexidine and do a lot of rinsing with warm saline.
