I've been trying to clean up my room, but I just don't seem to have enough room for everything. I have already donated tons of my clothes to make more space, but it didn't seem to make a dent. Any tips for organization?

Purchase some clear storages boxes. Sterelite has a very good line that inexpensive. They have sizes that will fit underneath your bed. Also purchase some larger ones that will fit in your closet under your clothing that is hanging up. Also purchase a shoe storage unit. These too will fit nicely in your closet.

Now ... sort through things that you "think" you might wear / use and put them in these boxes.

Your job is now half finished. Add to these boxes as you find other items that you want to "think" on.

In a couple of months see if you have missed any of this stuff. If not, now you're ready to make another donation. Tax deductable even! So! A less cluttered room & a tax break.

If the majority of the "things" are not clothing - consider putting them in storage in the garage or attic. They will be protected in the storage boxes.

This leg of the project all done? Now - off to the store to purchase more storage boxes so that you can begin the process all over again.

By continuing this reduction - as you bring in new things / purchases - you are reducing as you go.

Works for me anyway. Good luck.

You mentioned donating lots of clothing, but perhaps there are other possessions you can sort through to decide if you really still want/need them. Be really harsh: look at all your things. Even if something has sentimental value, if it's old, dirty, broken, or has no real function anymore, then throw it away or give it away!

I have this same problem, only it's throughout my house!!

Letters, or papers, or old greeting cards: sort through them and decide to save only the most special ones.

Jewelry: only keep what you actually wear. Don't say, "Oh, I think I'll use this whenever.." Whenever may never come!

Books: keep only ones you know you'll miss. Donate the others to your library or give to a friend or a nursing home.

Good luck. It takes time.

You have to keep paring down until you have just enough to fit in the space you have. Or you have to create more space.
