This guy that I am really good friends with just recently professed his love for me. Being the type of person I am I quickly changed the subject and he hasn't brought it up since.
The other day when telling him about an interview I had recently had in a town that is several hours away from where I am currently living he expressed that he didn't like the idea of me moving so far away because he would never see me again.
My concern is that if I were to start a relationship with this guy and it didn't work out for some reason that I would lose a good friend. There's also the commitment- issue thing which I have no idea where it came from. I guess I would just like some people's opinions. Thanks!

It's not that I don't like the guy, I think I'm more wary than anything. Both of us have been hurt really badly in the past. Part of me also feels like I'm way to young to get into a serious relationship (I'm only 22) but at the same time I know that things happen when they happen.

This is really simple (I didn't say easy!) You're going to loose him as a friend anyway. Unless he is really really unusual he will not be able to accept just being friends when he loves you. Figure out how you feel about him and base your decision on those feelings. Do not worry about hurting his feelings. If you are not interested in him romantically then he is going to be crushed anyway. Unfortunately, that is not something yo have control over. You only have control over your feelings. Just like he only has control over his feelings. Whether you move or not the act of remaining friends only is probably not going to be possible. Good luck

Well you don't want to ignore him totally. He's probally felt this way for a while and got enough guts up to tell you how he really feels. I would at least explain how you feel about him and the dilemma that you see between the two of you. He may have a solution. If not maybe he will understand how you feel and understand that being friends right now Is better.

I hear doubt in your voice. Follow your gut. It is way too soon to start making life decisions based on what you have said. Take the job if it is what you are looking for. The relationship will last if it is real.

Thats the point of taking risks. if it works out, you have a good friend and boyfriend, if it doesnt, you might still have the friend, or maybe not, but at least you won't spend forever wondering what would have happened if you DID hook up with him...

you haven't written anything here about your feelings for him: which to me indicates that you don't have any.if you are not in love with him it ain't going to work, no matter what. you may fall in love with him later on. if you do, THEN start a relationship with him. if you get together with him without being in love with him then yes, you will lose a good friend.

i will tell you the same as i tell all others if you truly like him take the chance. If he is your true friend than if the relationship didnt work ot he will stay your friend SO TAKE THE CHANCE
