An infected lower tooth CAN cause your throat to swell. It can cause displacement of the tongue, difficulty swallowing, and difficulty breathing. If you feel that your throat is getting more narrow and swallowing or breathing becomes difficult, you MUST GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. A high dose of intravenous antibiotics and drainage of the infection may be necessary for you to continue to breathe. If your symptoms get worse, do NOT wait. Have someone take you to the ER.

If your tooth is infected, it comes down your throat and your lymph nodes in the neck try to catch them first and thus you will feel them swelling along your throat. These are the lymph glands on the side of your neck.
Swelling elsewhere in the throat may mean tonsilitis, or swelling of your adenoid glands. All those three will cause you to feel pain.
Go to the doctor.

I would think that yes, an infection can spread and would affect your throat or even other areas of your body. My husband has some infected teeth that have broken--and the infection has even caused his SED rate in his blood to remain high.

It sure can. Sounds like you might have a Parapharyngeal abscess. Head and neck infections are sort of serious, so you'll want to see your doctor soon to get antibiotics.

if you are certain that you indeed have an infection, yes it can go in to your throat thru your lymph nodes. or the glands in your throat. i would recommend that you go see your doc and get on some antibiotics as soon as possible. if left untreated, it could result in blood poisoning.

get to your dentist immediately, get on some anti-biotics NOW! infections will swell your throat, give you headaches, blur your vision, and could give you a severe case of death that is hard to cure.

It sounds related to the tooth. You should go to the ER because I don't think it will get better on it's own. You should go now.
