First things first little lady---
the major thing here is that your husband will be serving with some of the absolute best people to ever put on a uniform and they are very good at covering one another-- far beyond the normal scope of things !!
Next is the thing that there is a somewhat different tone to things in the last several weeks with the Democrats coming to some better leverage in the Congress and a little better footing for at least a dialog on change in this present situation !!
Then there is the FACT that this President is a lame duck and will not be holding the reins for all that much longer--- granted the things that he has done here will far outlast his term(s) in office--but-- there are thoughts being tossed into the mix daily now on how we can proceed with balance in what we have been thrust into without leaving Iraq in a civil war blood bath upon our exit !!
As far as a strategy is concerned---the only one that is civil on our part is to find a way to force the central structure in Iraq to take hold and incrementally take over with enough strength and will to do the job---granted THIS seems to be a the edge of rational thinking of late---but---it is our only hope---
One thing in closing here---reguardless of what anyone says---it is definately possible to stand against the policies and the techniques and the politics of what is going on in all this ---and still be TOTALLY behind the service people serving in this insane display of muscle flexing by the present administration----our people on the ground in this thing are the absolute best that ever could possibily be---hands down---they've simply been placed in an impossible situation with (once again) politics running a combat situation while the situation demands that the tactical people should be the final word !!
Be of good cheer though---he will be in the company of brothers and sisters dedicated to each other to the max and in that you can be totally assured !!!

My husband is there right now and they are talking about putting 10,000-20,000 more troops there. I am all for it because it will bring more security to the country and more safety to the troops because of more presence. What does America do when there is an area of a city with a high rate of crime? We put more cops! This concept is a good one to apply to the current situation in Iraq because the more troops there are, the faster we can stabalize the country and the faster they can come home. I would much rather they send more troops then let the ones that are there suffer because they are stretched too thin! Good luck and don't worry!

Supporting your husband and surviving a deployment is a totally different issue entirely from supporting the war and/or the president. Your husband has a job to do, he volunteered to be a soldier. You volunteered to be his wife and it's YOUR job to be there for HIM and make sure that his home and family (that's you, kids and other relatives) are still in as close to the same condition as possible as they were when he left.
I hope and pray for my husband's safety every day. But I'm also confident in his ability to do his job, and that makes more difference than blind hope. They've been calling for a draw-down of troops since my husband was there the first time. If you're focused on the future strategy of the military as a whole, or about D.C. politics, you're only making things worse on yourself.

Mostly all Americans hope for a quick solution to the war - hopefully stabilizing Iraq. A quick & hard strike I believe is our best chance of a quicker end. My son & 3 nephews are in the military & I pray & hope daily for their safety but I do believe the end is in sight. I will only continue for so long. Past wars have been lengthy but America has stood behind the president & military.
I do not think you have to concern yourself with be "totally" or even partially patriotic. You do not come across as vaguely patriotic, please try to find this from your husband as he has enough to worry about.

Supporting your President is not lieing to yourself.
Its only natural to worry about your husband, but think about it..there is only about a 3% chance of him getting killed or seriously injured.
We will get out of Iraq at some point. Stabalizing it will be up to the Iraqi government.

Gee golly, hun, that's a toughie. Really, you can support this country and not support the president at all. If patriotism were blindly following your leaders, this country would have never been born. Really, the best thing you can do, if you're actually wanting to get active with it, is form some kind of voting block, a group of people who are going to vote like you are, on an issue like forcing the hand of Congress to impeach GW. God knows, if the president can get impeached for lying about personal matters, surely he can be impeached for lying about sending our troops off to risk life and limb.
I'll pray for your hubby, and I hope that this war is over soon. The only way out is for our government to decide they've actually milked this thing for all it's worth. In my opinion, governments will stabilize themselves if we let them, though seldom like we want them to. But we're building and destroying at the same time, and it's not working because we have decided that we want a government that will rule like we want them to, but we don't want to be seen as an occupying force. We can't have it both ways. Either they're a sovreign country or they're not. But as long as the average Joe (or Jane) is willing to sit at home and not rally the troops back home (voters), the government is able to do precisely what they want to do.
*sigh* Depressing, neh?

The most positive thing I can think of is that GWB can't be re-elected after this term and that he will be out of office at the end of 2008.

We hope that they get a democratic government set up and they are able to live by themselves, thats what. Of course if you voted for GWB, you should be patriotic towards him, unless your a Benedict Arnold, right?

i will pray for your husband. he is a brave man for fighting the terrorists over there instead of us fighting them here. he joined the military voluntarily. unfortunately, part of the job is the possibility of having to fight for your country, and that is what he is going to do. i would not want my husband or sons to go war either. hopefully, and soon, we can fight this war like a real war and end it.

The best thing you can do is find some other military spouses. Trust me, in tough times you need someone else who understands the situation and no one will understand better than someone in the same situation.
