the only thing i can think that can be blamed on genetics is where fat is stored. People were not overweight as much as they are now 50 years ago. It's not genetics, it's because they're lazy and can't put down the processed foods. Why do they make excuses?

ok, im a lil over weight, and im a nurse... there are a lot of people that gain weight due to different medical problems, and stusies have shown that a woman in her early 20s and skinny , and a woman in her early 20s and overweight can lay around and do absolutly nothing and would gain pretty much the same amount. but in exercising the over weight woman loses faster than the skinny woman. but diabetes can make u gain weight until its discovered and you are put on the right diet, then u can lose some of the extra weight. then there is hypothyroidism,
Your thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of your neck, just below your Adam's apple. Hormones produced by the thyroid gland have an enormous impact on your health, affecting all aspects of your metabolism — from the rate at which your heart beats to how quickly you burn calories. As long as your thyroid releases the proper amounts of these hormones, your system functions normally. But sometimes your thyroid doesn't produce enough hormones, upsetting the balance of chemical reactions in your body. This condition is known as hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid disease. Women, especially those older than 50, are more likely to have hypothyroidism than men are, but you can encounter this disease at any age. Hypothyroidism seldom causes symptoms in the early stages, but over time, untreated hypothyroidism can cause a number of health problems, such as obesity, joint pain, infertility and heart disease... look it up if you want but i know what im talkin about. hope this answers your question and i hate to break it to ya but im very active and im still a lil overweight, i dont like that people look at some one and say shes fat so shes gotta be lazy.

Why is it, when skinny people complain that they can't put on weight, and people know they're eating it must be genetic, but, when someone is overweight, and we see them eating healthy foods and getting exercise, we assume they're binging, eating crap, or laying around all day? There are many different reasons for obesity. Some of it is choice, some genetic, some environment, and some is for reasons we'll never know. I'd recommend spending less time looking at others and more time looking inside yourself. Was this posting helpful? Was it nice? Was it necessary? What were you feeling about yourself that you needed to comment on, and judge others?

I eat very healthy everyday of my life and exercise twice daily, but yet I still had a weight problem. I just found out that I have a thyroid problem, so sometimes it isn't always that people eat unhealthy and don't exercise. And it can be very frustrating for those of us who do live a healthy lifestyle to still be overweight, and people think it is because you are lazy and eat at McDonald's everyday. I am sure that is true for a lot of people, but it isn't for some like myself.

Actually it is genetics and can also be thyroid problems. There are a lot of reason people are overweight. Stress and depression can make someone overweight as well. I know someone that exercises daily, doesn't drink soda, eats very healthy and is overwieght due to her thyroid problem. The meds she is on doesn't help the issue either. Not all overweight people are lazy. You all need to quit judging people by their looks and labeling them you need to get the facts...

Hold it just a minute. I eat healthy, I make good choices, eat all my veggies, no butter, eat red meat maybe twice a month, go exercising 3 times a week, climb 144 steps (11 floors) three times a week, including weight bearing exercises, go for walks, very little carbs and I can't seem to kick start my metabolism into high gear, I also drink 6-8 glasses of water. I dont' eat out either.
I am still overweight, so tell me, where am I going wrong.
My mother was fat, my father was heavy, my sister only lost weight by basically starving herself. I am frustated.

THATS WHAT I HAVE BEEN SAYING FOR A LONG TIME. fat is not genetic. helllllllllllllllllllll no!. fat ppl are fat because they are lazy f.cks for exersise. take my mom for example she is a hard working woman but when it comes to exersise helll not she doesent wanna think about. fat people are lazy and they like to make excuses, they hate working out and then they bich because thin people make fun of them. the make excuses because they passed their bellies( ahhahahaahha) i was fat too, but i worked hard and now i am uber sexy. so yea its just they find tiering to work out, and they cant eat healthy becuse they love fatty foods

Most people find it easier to blame their defeat on genetics rather than accept fault for their own wayward path.
