Because in the first few months there is a big difference in what a 7 week old and an 11 week old would be capable of. Just like most people use months for the second have of the first year up until the 2nd or 3rd birthday. They grow and change so rapidly in these first few years that a small difference in age really does make a difference in what they are capable of.

I think I did that until my kids were about 12 weeks old, but then I just started saying 3 or 3 1/2 months. I finally stopped using months, when my daugher turned 2.

I go by weeks until they are about 12 weeks-then I go to 3 months and so on.My son is 19 months now and I would not say he is 76 weeks old-that would be so silly.

You get used to that when you're pregnant, everything is "weeks".
Once a baby is about 3-4 months old, most people switch from weeks to months.

Parents are proud about how old their children are and it just seems older when we refer to them in weeks rather than months

Wow, I gave my children's ages in weeks until they were 2 mo, but beyond that it is a little strange.
I don't have the time or patience to keep track of the weeks after 7! LOL

Because the new parent is too tired to figure out months. Stop being lazy and help them out a bit
