No disrespect intended, I'm just curious.
I understand that you believe Jesus died for your sins. But say he was shot in the face for your sins... would you wear a gun around your neck? You know how many people have been shot to death?
Isn't there a better symbol that could have celebrated his life instead of his death? It seems pretty morbid to me to use an ancient execution method on a necklace.

I also understand that you want to remember his sacrifice and how much pain he went through, I just don't get why. I would think that his teachings would be more important than the way he was murdered.
And by the way, I'm Atheist.

Your question shows more intellect than many Christians care to admit.
My church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, does not display the cross in any fashion. We revere the agonizing way the Christ died, but we concentrate on His message and the Atoning sacrifice He made for us.
Displaying a cross is similar to always keeping a picture of your loved one in his or her casket. No one does that either.

The Cross was originally a Roman symbol of Death, yet through Christs selfless act for all of us He made it a symbol of our life and Salvation.
Yes it would be the same no matter what type of death He suffered whether by firearm, beheading, etc. The symbol is not the point, it is what it symbolizes.
Spiritually we are now called upon to "Bear our Cross" as He did for us. That through the Cross we should find Eternal Salvation.

Those Roman Catholics wear those crosses because their "Fathers" told em so.. not even realizing that their just mocking and disrespecting God.. their wearing not the symbol of God but the symbol of what those Romans used to kill God..
about sacrifice, God did sacrificed Himself for us but He could have willed any method.. He could just have sacrificed in a gillotine, or by stoning.. so would that mean if such sacrifice was made through the above mentioned? Roman Catholics would wear stones or ropes because that's the way God sacrificed??
You people, you just follow what your Fathers told you!!! Why not read the Bible and search if God told us to remember Him by wearing the instrument or the method by which He sacrificed..
You just follow traditions and you don't rely on the Bible!!! YOU WILL DIE OF IGNORANCE!!! That ignorance will bring you to hell!!!
Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Exodus 23:13 And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.
Psalms 53:1 To the chief Musician upon Mahalath, Maschil, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

While your point is well-taken, think about it. It's a real easy symbol to make; you just tie two sticks together and you have an icon. That's a lot easier than trying to replicate his face (or a gun). Maybe if he was beheaded, they could use an ax. that would be pretty easy to fabricate.

there are other reasons people wear the cross, yes he died a horrible death on that cross. but it also symbolizes a new life and covenant with God. so it depends on your perspective. almost all people see the Holy crosses are seen as a means of protection and new life.

Because we are fallen humans. We will worship ANYTHING! You are right that there should be NO crosses even within the church, but the church is NOT the authority. The Bible is. Unfortunately, man will do anything he can to worship something instead of the unseen. Hope this helps.

Quoting St. Anselm, a great scholar of the middle ages,
"And so also was it proper that the devil, who, being man's tempter, had conquered him in eating of the tree, should be vanquished by man in the suffering of the tree which man bore."
Remember the eternal cost of sin!

It keeps you aware of his brutal and painful death. Irrelevant of his message and the evil church that followed.
Some people think that Jesus suffering equals heaven for us all. I don't see the connection, but that's my answer.
