The best speakers are the magical panel speakers primarily dominated by two brands, Martin Logan and Magnepan. They are based on different technologies but both sound very different to paper cone speakers
Martin Logan speakers are easier to find. They can be found at independent audio solons and Magnolia stores. If used speakers are acceptable my favorite speaker under $2500 is the Aerius.
Magnepan’s are available only at independent audio solons and much harder to find. Magnepan has a web only special on their least expensive speaker – a 60 day money back guarantee and 100% credit toward better models for one year. Personally, would travel to the closest store and listen prior to purchasing.
Once you’ve heard these speakers you’ll never be satisfied with box speakers and paper cones again.

I really appreciate questions like yours. Speakers (I mean the
kind that sound really nice -not the mass-consumer models)
are what I enjoy sharing knowledge about on Yahoo! Answers.
Comparable speakers to the Studio 100 V2 and BP7001SCs?
There are quite a few out there, but here are just a few that I
would consider you to put on your short list of comparisons...
- Silverline Audio Prelude (my first choice) ~ $1,200/pr.
Exceptional clarity and speed, along with superb dynamics and
near full-range performance belying it's petite woofer size. Also,
these are unmatched in driver integration due to the fact that the
tweeter and the woofers utilize the same surface material. One
more plus about the Prelude (and the entire line for that matter),
it the driveable ease of the speaker with virtually any amp due to
its stable impedance charachter. A lot can be said about this.
- Tyler Acoustics Linbrook Floorstanding Ref Monitor ~$2,400/pr.
Now these speakers use (realistically) perhaps the best drivers
and components you will be able to find from a finished speaker
at this price point. I know just parts don't make a speaker sound
good, but with proper engineering like this brand has, not to men-
tion the unlimited amount of exquisite standard-to-exotic finishes,
this brand is one of the underground speaker companies that will
give you the most bang for your buck.
- ProAc Response D15 ~ $2,500/pr.
Basically the new version of the venerable Response 2.5, if you
match it with the right amplifier (Naim Audio or Clayton Audio are
my preferred choices), music will envelope you nearly to the point
of no return. On the flip side, these can be fickle with an amp that
doesn't match well. You will get good, but not great sound...
Acutually, it will sound like something is missing -and it is.
- ProAc Studio 100 ~ $1,800/pr.
Quite musical, with a nice tonal balance and near full-range per-
formance. If you match these up well with the right amplifier,
these will play music in spades.
Not to overwhelm you, but JMlab is one other speaker company
that I would suggest putting on your short list as well. I give you
all these choices because everyone has their own taste, so not
everyone will like the same speakers no matter how good one is.
If I can help you further, just send me an e-mail and I would
be glad to help. Speaker experimentation, along with audio
and video gear, have been my hobby for just about 25 years.

Before spending a big sum on speakers you must take into account the following: your set up, your room accustics, etc.
Yes, the 100 V2 really sound good because they hook them up to perfectly tailored systems with the best speaker cables, gold finished plugs, etc. Hook any expensive speaker to an inferior system and they sound bad.
I opted for a B&W-704 (got mine for a bargain at eBay) with no regrets. The money saved I spent on superior cables, three new tubes plus a couple of hard to find Original Master Recording vinyls.
If your type of music are on CDs forget spending a big sum on high end speakers. The price range you're looking at are best hooked to amp - preamp tubes set up. This is where you'll enjoy them most.
Good luck

Paradigm makes a pretty good speaker for the money...And I do find that their "Studio" series offers the MOST for you money...But I would recommend "Bowers and Wilkins" (B&W) speakers for your next purchase...More specificly their "700" series...Previously called the "CDM" series...I would go demo the "704" model ($2,500)...
Take along a CD that you know very well so you can HEAR the difference for yourself...If the 704's don't offer a "full" enough sound for you, try their big brothers: the 703's ($3,000).
B&W speakers offer a FLAT response...This means they play the BASS, TREBLE and MID-RANGE sounds EQUALLY...Don't buy speakers judging solely on the BASS and TREBLE...Listen to how the MID-RANGE in your music sounds when trying out speakers...The mid-range is the VOICES in your music.
Most speaker manufactures know that people ONLY listen for high and low sounds when buying speakers so they HIKE-UP the bass and treble on their models to make more sales...It's the same as televison manufactures turning up the COLOR and BIGHTNESS on their products before leaving the factory.
The DOWN-SIDE to a "flat response" speaker is GREAT recordings will sound great and BAD recording will sound bad...EVERYTHING gets played back EXACTLY the way it was recorded.
But go and and find out for YOURSELF...If it turns out you LIKE what you hear, don't pay retail...Folks on eBay are ALWAYS selling off their 700 Series B&W speakers for about HALF of what they cost.
I truly believe if you go and listen to these speakers, you'll be impressed...Find a dealer near you and check them out at B&W's website by clicking the link below...

Paradigm has been voted best in the Price/Value category 17 years in a row and Best Overall 6 out of the Last 11 Years. You are unlikely to find better at that price (Inside Track)
They are consistently given very high marks in magazines like Stereophile and others.

often times the only component words can do is set off an inner journey or deeper comprehend-how I call an Ah-ha. Will Rogers words did this for me as I examine them. Look at Energy or Polk speakers. They will sound quite similar to the Paradigms and probably better.

I'm biased somewhat. Klipsch is the way to go. Top of the line RF-83's list $2498, and have a 100db sensitivity level, so little power is needed. I have the older KLF-30's, very nice. I like Polk's too. Used to have a pair of RTi8's, a nice little pair of speakers for around $840.00
