on an ideal situation it should be 22 city 29 hwy but being a 97 it prolly gets 16 city 23 hwy due to wear and tear of the vehicle. Plus road conditions, drive habits, weather, maintainence, and other factors may affect gas mileage either way

Jeep Girl
In the ideal world we should get a minimum of 100 miles to the gallon in our Jeep Wranglers.
Perhaps a more productive question might be; How can I improve the gas mileage on MY Jeep ?
Have you looked into aligning the fuel molecules with magnets ? How about a K & N Filter ? Get the muffler shop to install flow-thru technology ? Maybe hotter spark plugs ? Have you looked at after-market chips ? Keeping tire pressures on the high side reduces drag on the road/better fuel mileage.

My 97 SE with 31x10.5 tires averaged around 22 on the highway and around 18 in town even after 175,000 miles.

what your jeep should get is irrelevant, no 2 engines are going to be the same and transfer power exactly equally, so the numbers they give are their best estimates of what they have seen in trials and so on. whatever your jeep gets is all its going to get, there is no magical way to get it to do better
