Tillamook itself is sort of a 'working' town, with the largest industry by far being dairy. The Tillamook Cheese Factory is a nice tourist stop and has a restaurant, and extensive ice cream selection. Beware, this place can be very crowded in the Summer months. Not far from Tillamook is Garibaldi, on Tillamook Bay with Salmon/Crabbing opportunities. The Wilson River flows from the mountains through Tillamook and offers Salmon / Steelhead fishing. There is also a nice Aviation museum in Tillamook. Nearby there are nice beaches (try Oceanside) nice campgrounds (try Cape Lookout State Park) and several lighthouses.

We have a beach cabin in Oceanside Oregon which is about 15 minutes from Tillamook. Tillamook has lots of cows and there are some good places to see like the Cheese Factory, and there is a place called the Blue Heron which has samples of cheeses and dips, and wine.

[edit] Economy
Historically, the Tillamook economy has been based primarily on dairy farms. The farmland surrounding the city is used for grazing the milk cattle that supply the Tillamook County Creamery Association's production of cheese, particularly cheddar, gourmet ice cream and yogurt, and other dairy products. Millions of people visit the cheese factory north of Tillamook on Highway 101 each year.

There is also a large lumber industry that is experiencing a comeback from the replanting that followed the famous Tillamook Burn forest fires of the mid-20th century.
