I meant why do businesses not hire someone just because they served in combat? People let their political views get in the way of hiring a potentially good employee.

As I suspected, yet another level 1 troll with nothing better to do.
Sure glad trolls are neutered at birth.

When business discriminate in their hiring practices they are prosecuted. It is against the law!!!!!!

I'm not sure about businesses discriminating against combat veterans, but I have heard about (and seen) businesses unfairly terminating employment of National Guardsmen returning from a deployment. This practice is, of course, highly illegal (see http://usmilitary.about.com/od/sscra/l/blsscra.htm for more information), but the problem is that the agency tasked with enforcing this act is full of bureocracy and red tape; sometimes a case will just "fall between the cracks".

I've also heard of Guardsmen being discriminated against while seeking employment (i.e. the second a potential employer learns that the applicant is in the National Guard, he is no longer a candidate for the job). This is also highly illegal, but hard to prove. It's quite understandable that the employer simply wishes to not have an employee taken away from the job every time a war, deployment or drill weekend comes up; but this is an unfair penalty for someone willing to sacrifice his or her life in defense of our country and its interests.

While it is true that some businesses do indeed discriminate against hiring veterans, in many cases the job-seeking veteran is his/her own enemy. Too many veterans rely solely on their military credentials when seeking employment. Unfortunately, military service does not automatically qualify one for employment in the civilian workforce. I am a veteran myself, and as a former manager, I interviewed 100's of prospective employees. My experience with many Vets is that they believed the world owed them something simply because they served in the military. Military folks too often have a rigid mindset that is incompatible with the civilian world. Also, I interviewed many Vets who did nothing whatsoever to prepare themselves for employment in the civilian workforce. Having said this, I did hire Vets who had prepared themselves, educationally and otherwise. Vets are just like everyone else - there are good and there are bad. My recommendation to Vets seeking employment is not to rely too heavily on your military background unless it directly relates to the job you are seeking.

How do you mean? Do they discriminate by hiring them over other people... or do they discriminate by not hiring them? I haven't experienced either.
However, there is thing called "Veteran's Preference" that the government started to help vets leaving the service get a job in the civilian world.
Not really that effective.
