If I understand your question correctly, you were communicating with an ex through your friend... in that case, you're not ready for a relationship, hun. There's no situation in which a healthy relationship doesn't have two people able to talk to one another in an open, honest way. Figure out how to be confident and straightforward on your own first, then figure out whether you want to be in a relationship. Chances are, you have your own stuff to worry about right now.
