I've been really fortunate to have friends pass on clothing for our two boys. Some have been very generous and given us bins of great clothes. To thank them I've sent a $10 gift card to Target or Old Navy. We aren't rolling in the dough, hence the hand-me-downs, but I really want them to know how much I appreciate it. One even sends the clothes across the country. Is this enough? Any other ideas?

You have great friends! What they are doing is very thoughtful and they must really like/love you to go out of their way and do something like that. Since they are your real friends, I'm sure they know that you are greatful for what they are doing. The $10 gesture was a good thing, says a lot about your character. You can always call them or write them to express how grateful you are. Im sure your friends are not expecting anything in return - just a sincere thank you will do :)

Well, personally I think a $10 GC is a very nice gesture to thank someone. Especially if its to a store they like. I happen to LOVE Old Navy and Target and shop there allot.
I think that was really nice of you, and you dont have to give them anything else. Im sure they will tell you that you shouldnt have given them anything at all, but I know I would feel good about giving them at least a little somthing in appriciation. : )

Giving them money is the antithesis of thanking them. It shows that you need them because you are too loose with your finances. You thank them by accepting them and wearing them. If you want to do more, bake them something, or send a note, or decorate a $2 picture frame and give it to them. Buyinig overpriced crap from Old Navy will keep you needing hand-me-downs forever.
You can find good clothes for real young kids at Goodwill, too. That's where most of the overpriced crap goes when kids grow out of them.

I used to get used clothing for my child and all I was ever able to say was than you and then I'd make sure they saw her wearing some of it. Being able to send a gift card is great and you are gracious to do that.

They know you are not rolling in dough that's why they send you the hand-me-downs. So don't stress yourself trying to thank them with something in return. Just a thank you note will be very appreciated.

Write a thank you note and MAIL it. (it's more personal then e-mail). Describe in detail why the boys like thee favorite clothing idem. Also have the boys sign the letter.

they know and next time you can afford it just do a dinner gift certificate and it can cover every thing that they did for you

you want to search yahoo groups for "freecycle". There are some groups near to you that will fill your house with free stuff, trust me, do it now.
