Because they are so shaken by who Christ is that they not only want to disbelieve he was who he said he was, but furthermore to say he didn't even exist. It makes them feel more comfortable, because they know that even the Jews in the Talmud said Jesus was a miracle worker and that was certainly not a Christian account. Some people try to reduce Jesus to just a good moral teacher, on the level of Confucius, Buddha and Jimmy Carter (joke), but others try to reduce him to be non-existent, and any account of him was a forgery from delusional people who craved power.
And as for being close-minded, that doesn't disturb me because man is not my judge, and I don't care what names they call me, if I believe something I am not going to bow to someone else's opinion. My religion is between me and God, not between me and popular opinion.

1) You are making many statements without any proof or even attempting to provide evidence. Please back up your statements.
2) Saying 'historians agree' does not make it so. Which historians? Christian ones? Are you referring to the single reference to Jesus outside of the gospels which was written by Josephus? Are you aware that the only reason why the world knows of Josephus is because christians 'historians' have been recopying his work since they found it politically useful? Are you also aware that it is very likely that these same christian 'scholars' have tampered with his work?
3) Certainly, christianity has changed the world. No one is debating that at all.
4) Christians are in fact, historically close minded. I would refer you to the early christian church's take over of the Roman Empire and subsequent suppression of science, free thought and knowledge. You may know this era as the Dark Ages.

yes the person of legend historically existed and that's about the only part that is verifiable . most of the rest is myth,
pure myth. Close minded people don't respond to reason and go their way merrily forward in ignorant bliss. The world has changed far beyond even the wildest fabricated tales of the
fake messiah . And you obviously have never even conversed with a Hebrew on this subject or you would have at least read the passover plot or understood the prophecies discounting the false messiah. Why are Christians so arrogant and narrow minded?
peace out ,read then grow and prosper

First it doesn't matter to me rather he was real or not. But it is true that there is no supporting Roman documentation. You can't even tell what the official charges were that lead to his execution. At the very least you can tell the Romans didn't think he was important.
The only documentation is from a century or two later by unidentified authors. It isn't really good historic documentation to say the least. And it isn't at all clear cut that historians totally buy it.

What historians, and with whom did they agree? If so, why didn't they provide any evidence so everyone would agree? Because there is no evidence, it is a myth - like Unicorn, Minotaur, and such. Finally, if you mean "obtuse," then that's what I think of Christians because they cannot and won't accept ANYTHING if it disagrees with the bible (intentionally lowercase, out of disrespect for the book of lies). Christians killed people to prove the Earth was flat, that god floated in the sky, and all kinds of idiotic beliefs. Then when science proves them wrong, they call it all a "metaphor" and start killing, persecuting and insulting about some other lies, like homosexuality these days. So Christians are a genocidal mob that just won't accept the truth, but would rather kill instead. "If we're wrong, we'll kill all who disagree and thus be right." There is no name disgusting enough for that.

At some point, alomst all religions are considered myths, and people who aren't a part of a faith are always there to say so. The Bible, therefore, is considered a myth by some. And certainly the 'God's son' bit. It's rather overdramatic...
And Christians are considered close-minded because they are frequently very conservative, and are often unwilling (in my experience) to accept things outside their faith. I knew a girl who considered our teacher Satan for teaching evolution.

Kind of the way you can say that Robin Hood and King Arthur are myth.
Robin Hood is the name given to anyone that was an outlaw from the law and all of the stories are probably from a number of different men rolled into one.
King Arthur is believed to have been a celtic chieftain. A magician, magical isle, fairies, and a magic sword are whats in question.
So, its possible that someone was named jesus and he was a preacher. But thats probably all to the tale. That doesn't mean that he turned water into wine, walked on water, rose from the dead, or anything else.

Jesus did exist as there is evidence outside of the Christian tradition such as testimony by Josephus. As far as Christians being closed-minded, I am not sure. What other religion accepts anyone? What other religion reaches out to those that society terms "undesirable?" Granted, once a sinner comes into the church they should conform their lives to a Christ-centered ethos!

I don't doubt that he existed. I don't believe the myths built up around him or all the garbage that was made up and attributed to him. Keep in mind that many other religious and non-religious figures have changed the world.

You can call Jesus a myth in the same way the president of Iran can claim the holocaust never happened.
