New Yorkers are not beasts....
I've lived here most of my life but I meet people just like you do anyother place.
Most of my friends have been people I have worked with. You can also meet people in activities like the dancer who posted or just like joining anything else.
Just please stop acting like NYers hate any and everybody. We are just like everyone else.
Good luck in fonding friends...we all have issues with that, even native new yorkers :)

Well I did move here alone but I was also going to school so I had a few aquaintances but I've met a lot of people on myspace. Typically it is hard to meet friends in the city. People here are always on the defensive side and ready to argue. I think most new yorkers meet people either online or in some kind of class (i'm a dancer and I've made friends in class), or at the gym and of course you'll meet new people at work who will then introduce you to more people. I actually found my closest friend on craigs list, she is like my long lost sister. So it really depends on how hard you try to be involved in social things and online can be a good tool as well. (Just be smart and meet people in public places if you meet them online.)

It's hard to make friends in New York City. Don't expect people to embrace you. Typically, you're on your own.
