Have some one poke you there with a needle. Then you'll know.

Oh my god some of these answers are so wrong!!! First up tat's hurt, deal. They do not hurt like a bunch of spinal taps! on the lower back around the spine it burns like any other tattoo, but it shakes your bones there so it feels weird! You won't die... Around the outer part of the back there is more fat which you would think would hurt less. Well it doesn't it burned worse. Over all it's not that bad depending on the size. I have one 5 inches by 12 inches and i lived. I have them on my forearm , ankle, toe, neck, lower back and a 1/2 sleeve. They all hurt! but pain is weakness leaving the body! If you're gonna do it go big or go home. All kidding aside it will burn like an Indian burn, but pop a couple Tylenol extra strength and you'll be good to go...

Initially it will hurt. Then as you hurt so much, it becomes numb. The part that hurted the most for me was where there was fat..the parts on either side of your spine. A lot of people say the opposite, but i found that when they were tattooing on my spine, it didn't hurt. In fact, it kinda tickled because they were vibrating my bones! I also have a tattoo on my thigh. that one hurt like a b**ch! because there is a lot of fat there.
If you're considering a tattoo on your lower back, be ready to take the pain associated with it.

Iv Never personally had it done i have a brother who has a large one on his lower back and he said when he got it he just scrunched up a little not intence pain. But hes a marine that may not have anything to do with it if you hit a nerve. It takes a long time to get done thoug its not 5 miniutes and over. My brother git a medium 1 and it took about two hours to do so it might not be the amount of pain but the amount of time u have to go through with it. LIke when a mosqoito is flyin around ur head and its fine for a miniute but it sticks around and starts to really piss u off. Then again it may comce to your advantage youll have time to get usesd to it.

Lower back is one the most sensitive places to get a tatt. It also depends on your pain tolerance. I have my upper mid back done and it hurt. Kinda like having a bad sunburn slapped. Lol, I just started my calf sleeve and I found that it hurt worse than my back. I don't even have color yet....
My advice is, if you can't handle pain well, I wouldn't choose your lower back first. I would try a meatier part of you like your hip or thigh, on the fleshy part. The closer you get to bone, the more pain. Other than that, go for it!

Yes it huts. It hurts a lot. Any tattoo hurts. The range may go from "excruciating" to "irritating" depending on the placement, the artist, and your own personal tolerance. But all tattoos hurt a lot, no matter where they're placed.

Just a little :) There's no fat around the spine to cushion the pain...No pain, No gain! Tattoos are fun because they're a catalyst for the brain to stimulate a chemical response to the pain, causing a sense of euphoria...enjoy the buzzzzzzz!

Mine hurt pretty bad, but its not unbearable. Don't take any aspirin or drink alcohol beforehand because it thins your blood, which makes you bleed more. You probably wont hold ink well if you bleed alot either. You'll do ok, and you can ask for breaks so its not totally miserable. Good Luck!

Pain is up to the person getting it. It wouldn't be permanent if it didn't hurt. If I said mine didn't hurt that much....would it really make a difference in getting yours?

i personally didnt think it hurt.....the best thing i can tell you to do is bend over, grab a piece of your skin on the lower part of you back, and pinch.....thats about what its going to feel like......i could feel all the bones vibrating up my back and it made me giggle....but then again i said the same thing when they did my foot.....i guess i have a high tolerence of pain....
