~Double-bladed axe.
Not as effective, but equally fun: Pour about 4 ounces of gasoline or kerosene on the dog in the vicinity of the tick. Step back at least 3 feet. Light a match. Throw it onto the gas/kerosene. The dog will go "wooooffff" and the tick will be gone. Grab a bun. Hot dog.

You could take it to the vet & get it some antibiotics just to make sure it's ok - BUT - you will be probably be spending a lot of money that you don't need to. Personally, I would just watch the site where the tick was, and monitor the dog's behavior over the next week. If the wound doesn't look infected & the dog is behaving normally, it's fine. If your dog gets a tick again, grasp it firmly with a tweezers as near to the head as possible and pull. This will normally pull it out with the head on. If you look closely, you will even see a bit of the dog's flesh at the mouth of the tick. (GROSS - I know!) I have pulled a LOT of ticks off of dogs - and I mean a LOT. I used to work as a groomer when I was younger and in college. You may also want to use Bio-Spot on your dogs. In my opinion, this is the best protection from ticks. It's a once a month topical treatment & it is very safe to use. I have Collies, which can be sensitive to certain drugs, and I've never had a problem with it & my dogs never have ticks. Eiyuu Ookami - The tick's head will NOT live after it's body has been pulled off! OMG - where did you get this info??? LOL!!

There is no good way. If this grosses you out get someone else to do it. If not get a match and light it. Blow it out, now put the hot match near the area where its head of the tick is going into pups head. It should back out. Grab it quick before it burrows back in. There its out. Now don't we all feel better. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE HEAD! Otherwise the pups head can get infected or you will grow another tick. Good Luck. Oh also Keep your eyes OPEN!

NO! Don't use tweezers, if there's any kind of disease in the tick, it will squeeze it directly into your dog's forehead. Try lighting a match, blowing it out, and touching it to the tick's back. That might get it to let go, if that doesn't work, put some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and touch the q-tip to the tick, that should get it to let go.

Use tweezers and get it over with quickly to save you both from suffering. Be sure to give the dog a treat once its all over and make sure you squish the tick. Then just to be safe take your dog to the vet to have it checked out for Lyme disease and all of that stuff they can get from ticks.

We always just pull them off with tweezers while wearing rubber gloves. If you don't have gloves, make sure you wash your hands thoroughly with anti-bacterial soap as ticks carry diseases that can make you very sick or kill you. Don't worry, your dog isn't in danger as most of those nasty diseases don't bother dogs. Make sure you kill the tick by flushing it down the toilet so it can't get on someone else, or make more little ticks.

If you pull it out the head can remain inside and then it will get infected.
The best way is to make the tick pull its own head out. To do this, find somone that smokes. (No kidding). Hold the ember of the lit cigarette near the tick--the intense heat will make that little booger back right out of there.
