~Looking for a pet or a girlfriend? If the former, take the Lab. If the latter, go for the retriever - they fetch better.

Yikes I have 2 Golden Retrievers and both are very energetic. Great with kids and family . Both Labs and Retrievers are great choices. As stated the Golden requires more brushing due to the long fur but the Labs also shed quite a bit ,but do not get matted fur.

Both dogs have great personalities and are very smart. Both need lots of exercise. The only difference between the two is that a Golden Retriever would take a tad more grooming than the lab. Either way you can't go wrong.

I've met many of both breeds and just recently I met a lab that was 1/2 yellow lab and 1/2 chocolate lab. He was huge and very smart. All the golden retrievers I've met were very sweet and affectionate. I guess it's a toss-up as to which you want in a dog.

Golden Lab. Split the difference.

Both these dogs are great for kids and are very playful. It is very hard to chose from the 2 of them but if I had to chose I would pick a golden retriever.

Split the difference. I've got a Black Lab/Golden and she is adorable. Just like a black golden, with the long hair.

If you like the lab, but want the color of the retriever you could always get a yellow lab.

In my city we have been having trouble with labs. In the past 6 months there as been a very large number of labs turned mean, like what people think of pits, One of them was my niece's. For no reason this perfectly sweet dog turned into a snarling monster. The vet said he believes we are having trouble with something he calls rage syndrome. In a city up north they are having the same with German shepherds. In my old home town it Beagles. Do some home work and stay away from any breed that seems to have a high number of attacks compared to what is normal.
