My boss is a really nice lady. She is funny, has a wonderful laugh, and just beautiful. I just need to know if I'm stepping out of my place as an employee.

ok then i'll just assume that you are a man. work is a sticky situation but not impossible.
the first few work romances i had i just went for the sex, and after i got it and things went sour the fallout was unbearable. when you are the guy you are always in the wrong- so you have to tread lightly.
you need to approach with a straightforward conversation- something like 'i'd like to spend some time with you outside of work' and ask for something innocous like the zoo or a walk in the park. sounds hokey but if u go straight for dinner and a movie which gives off the i want to move into sex sooner than later vibe it could go bad. if u take it slow and she's reasonable you can recover from a breakup down the road.
in the not unlikely scenario that she says no u need to take the highroad dispite feeling rejected. plus u need to take no for no.

If they do not have a policy against employee/boss dating then just be straight forward and ask. Don't beat around the bush for you loose out.

You don't until he's no longer your boss. Get a new job, then ask him out. Or just get over him.

But having a crush on your boss sure makes it easier to go to work...

First things first.....get a job recommendation in writing from him. You will need it when you get fired for asking him out

I think you might consider keeping your personal life separate from business. It is a decision you could easily regret.

Playy it cool. Ask him for coffee or dinner or something simple like that. Ask him for a second, then just ask. Good luck!
