I suggest to my students to make vocabulary cards with the spanish words on one side and english on the other, you can quiz yourself using the cards and "throw away" those you know to limit yourself to the one's you do not know.
I also have my students "label objects" that they have around the house so that when they see the object, they associate the word with it.
You can also make up silly songs (if musically inclined)... with the vocabulary.
Have someone (like a friend) quiz you on your words.
also there are many online sites that will have quizzes, etc. for you to test yourself.
Finally, try this : http://www.learnalanguage.org/elemspan/
!!!! 5-STAR- !!!! Has clickable lessons in almost every vocabulary possible where students can listen to audio pronunciations of words, each list has activities like quizzes, games, practice tests, and actual tests! GREAT PARENT RESOURCE!
This is a site I recommend that my students and parents use.

Try using the words in real, meaningful sentences.... even if you are using them in English. Like: I have to sit in the pupitre when I'm in class.
Another possible way to learn the vocabulary is to play a game with the words: Study the words and then write the Spanish word on 1 card and the English translation on another. Mix all the cards up and play concentration where you try to find the Spanish and English words.
If you have some of the classroom objects at home, put a post-a-note with the Spanish word on the object. That way, you'll be seeing the object AND the word at the same time.

I have a Idea do not know if it would work for you but did wonders for me. I use to record my notes on tape and after done reading them stop the tape and just rewind and listen over and over. Just lay back and listen. You do not get tired, all you do is close your eyes and just concentrate. It is prov en that your brain will absorb more information when you are sleeping. just listen to it when you are in bed, or relaxing. It worked for me I had a 70% avg. in college and taping my notes finished off college with a 87% average. Good luck

Memorization tips:
Write or print out the words and their definitions on paper.
Tape them up where you brush your teeth and do your hair and look them over while you do your "do".
Put them near the toilet to mull over in private boredom.
Hang them on the back of the car seat in front of where you sit, (or the bus seat, if applicapable).
Tape them on the refrigerator .
Then when you "hunger and thirst" for knowledge, you shall be filled.
I hope this helps. : )
P.S. I think the Language teacher's answer is
brilliant!

Just say it slowly[as if you were breaking them down into syllables]
Say it a couple of times.
Just say it as they sound. So it wont be hard to spell.
