The Bush adminstration is sending more troops to Iraq after the first of the year. Can't this "IDIOT" president of ours, see that he cannot stop the fighting over there? They have been fighting since the beginning of time way back in the Bible days. More troops will be killed and more families will be without fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters. Maybe if his daughters were over there carring an m 16 machine gun things would be different, or put his *** over there. This nonsense has got to be stopped. My son just returned from Iraq and is being treated for major depression from the things he had to deal with over there.

Sorry that your son had to deal with that. I hope he gets better. And I’m wondering the same question too. I don’t think there is a good enough answer. NOTHING and I repeat, NOTHING like that is worth your son or daughter risking his/her life for. A bond between a parent and child is sacred. I would go over there if it meant saving my child’s life but to have the possibility exist that your child could go first is just horrible. My son is only 3 (well will be the 30th of this month) and I forbid him to ever be in the army LOL. Sometimes I get too strict and tell him I don’t want him being a policeman or fire fighter either lol. But yes, I agree with you and once again, sorry your son has to deal with that. My uncle was highly affected also from being in a war, years ago. He once pulled me under the kitchen table and told me to cover my head when I was younger after hearing fire whistles go off outside. It can be very sad.

First, I wish the best for your son. Living a war is something most of us have no idea of what it is like. My son & grandson have been there. We haven't talked about it yet, but I am sure we will.

I am no foreign policy expert, but more of a commentator of what I see & hear. Bush & Blair took all of us for a ride & we let them lie to us. Still, they invaded a country & & left it defenseless against its enemies, from outside & within. Like it or not, we have a responsibility to give them a chance to survive, hopefully with a functioning democracy. My hope is the Democrats, the new British PM, & the new UN SG can force enough of a change of direction to make it possible. Staying into the indefinite future is not an option, in my mind. Leaving immediately isn't either. Everything else needs to be on the table, including the option of splitting Iraq into separate countries if nothing else works.. From what I have heard most of the troops saying, the people don't hate us. They just want to be able to get on with their lives too. I hope we see that day happen soon.

Q for noalco & Shawn - you guys ever serve in a war zone? You seem so ready to send others, just wondering. Micheal, thank you for serving. Your opinion counts more than most of these because you have been there.

The fact is that the President feels that Iraq is a threat to us. I would rather that this battle be fought over there than here on American soil. When I did my time in the military I felt it my duty to protect those I love. I believe that is what the idea is, not to send someone just to get killed. I don't think anyone would like to see another 9/11 and most people believe that having a stable environment in the middle east is the way to keep it from happening again.

It all comes down to the needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few. If by sending soldiers in to Iraq now prevents millions from being killed in America, I'm all for it and I have proved by my own service that I am willing to fight for it.

Im sorry, but your son joined the military, and he knew what he had to do, and so do all of the other soldiers.. He knew there was a possibility of him going to some sort of war, and he is going to have to get help for his drepression. We aren't trying to stop the fighting with just guns, we are trying to help them set up a government so the innocent ones in Iraq can live peacefully. Did you ever think Bush was maybe sending more troops so they could cycle the other ones out?

There's a growing number of retired 4*s, who are saying 'It's time to cut and run' (General Odom). The Secretary of Defense, Gates, stated in the hearings, "We're losing the war". The Iraq Study Group indicates that it's time to change the course! The new Pentagon report (JCOS), says, "Yup, time to git out!"
New evidence brought before the Senate, shows that the administration knew that the intelligence was doctored; no WMD, and no Hussein / Al-Qaeda connection.
I do believe, if I remember my history right, there was another fella, ohhh, in the 1930's, who began invading other countries and declaring war on them on false pretenses, and, uhhhh, I think there were some trials of these guys, in a place called Nuremberg, and after that, international law defined pre-emptive war, as a "crime against humanity".
By the way, I'm a military brat. I defend the military in every way I can. But, even the great generals throughout our history, even though "war is hell", even they abhorred senseless slaughter of our troops. And, also, by the way -- our VP got FIVE deferments during the Viet Nam War -- he NEVER served!! Bush's "military service" is laughable....
The Iraq Study Group DOES present a workable alternative, that could actually resolve the crisis.

*** After looking at your 360', I just HAD to add this joke:

Pres. Bush was returning to the White House, after travelling to Arkansas to cheer on the Razorbacks. As he disembarked from the plane, he held two Razorback hogs, one under each arm. He was grinning from ear to ear.
The guard snapped to attention, as the President made his way down off the plane, walking towards him. The President, unable to hold back his excitement, shouted to him, "Hey -- lookit whut Ah got --- I got one for Dick Cheney, and one for Condi Rice!"

The guard quipped, "Great trade, Sir!"

You're 100% correct! Nothing will be gained out of this war, with the exception of more dead Americans!

My son-in-law will be deporting to Iraq on the 27th of this month and will be leaving behind a wife and 3 very young children.

Nothing is ever going to change over there and there's nothing, with the exception of God, that anyone can do!

Because we just might be having second thoughts about this entire thing.

Now its time to make some vain last ditch effort to make ourselves look real pretty and valiant.

My husband is in the military... so much has happened in the last few years... especially the last year! NONE of it is looking good for our active duty family members.

Its so difficult to remain positive when our president (who makes it a point for us to know that he "doesn't act alone" -- causing me to shudder at the thought that our future lies in the hands of many great morons ) just seems so out of touch with reality.

5 more years -- Its a terrifying thought.

Reality is what is it is. Call me "lib-tard", call me a "conspiracy theorist", heck, even give me the "well he signed up speech", you can even go so far as to say I "support terra" because I want our troops to be as safe as possible... no matter what you call it... the reality of the situation is what it is, and turning a blind and highly "patriotic" eye is only going to... well you can finish this sentence however you want...

... Just pray this isn't the precursor to WWII cause then we'll never see our loved ones...

So, you think the fighting cannot be stopped in the Middle East. Cant win, dont try. Gotcha. Great attitude.

I am sorry about your son but I am curious, why did he join the Army. Was it because he loves his country? Or was it because the average bonus in the Army RESERVE is $7,000 and he wanted college money?

As I understand it, military personnel who go to Iraq get bonuses. So, better pay.

I'm on the fence as yet about the mess in Iraq. I hope your son gets better.
