Do you have any idea at all whether she would like a dog who needs to be brushed and groomed etc --- or does she want a short haired dog that just needs a bath every so often?
Does she want one to be a lap dog --or does she want an active one?
Any kind of a terrier is very high energy --and some of them need a haircut every month
Some small dogs think they are big dogs! Jack Russell Terriers and Min Pins can be a handful!
Personally, I like small short -haired dogs who are not constantly under my feet. But some people want a dog to spoil.
Maybe you can take her somewhere there are dogs and see which ones she likes. Or maybe you can get her a gift certificate so she can go pick out the one she wants

I personally like Min Pins and Jack Russell Terriers but they are very hyper and think they are a big dog and are very fearless,,, I have 2 min Pins and they are like my kids and then i have had a yorkie and she was so cute and love able so if you want to have some one to play with alot then i would suggest a Min Pin or a Jack Russell cause like i said they are very high strung,,, but if you want to get her a lap dog then a Yorkie or a poodle would be great,,, I hope this has helped and good luck on your search on a new puppy they are so cute but can be alot of work, but it is all well worth the work cause in the end you have a very best friend that will be there for you when every you need them

I would suggest that you go online and read about several of the breeds that are available. Remember, having a dog is alot of fun, but it is also alot of responsibility. If you read about the different breeds before you decide it will help you determine which little dog will be best suited for your household. Different breeds of dogs have very different characteristics and education on the different breeds will help to ensure that when you choose the pup, you will not be choosing a dog that doesn't suit your lifestyle. For example, Jack Russell Terriers are simply adorable, but if you're a couch potatoe that wants a mellow laid back dog, the Jack Russell Terrier is NOT the breed for you.
There is lots of infomation available online about the different breeds of dog. Read up on them and then choose your new "family member." This way, everyone, including the dog, will be happy!
Best of luck!

Papillions, Bichon Frise, Maltese, Lhasa Apso, Pugs all sweet dogs and very good companion dogs. Also check your local animal shelter, they could have the perfect dog there and you would be saving a dog from possible death. That right there might make really good points with the girlfriend.

Papillon~ look them up! They are adorable and they are great indoor pets. They do good in apartments too. I have 2 and love the breed. They are really smart. Mine are about 5 lbs each. They don't always require attention, but they do like to cuddle.

I had a toy breed terrier that lived a good life for more than l6 years - most intelligent, adorable. Just a gentle reminder: a pet is as good as having a child. they need your total commitment as in: training, cleaning, feeding, etc. until the end of their lives. Good luck!
