When you come to America to live and earn money here, the very LEAST you can do is to learn enough ENGLISH to be able to order food.

I've traveled in Mexico (as well as other countries) and have always made it a point to be conversant enough to be able to order food and find the bathrooms. It has also been my experience that 90% of the people I speak with in these various countries want to practice their English.

So please...learn English.

Me and my three friends (All in our late 20's) have formed a team to help out our neighborhood. I wear a Jar Jar Binks costume and am the leader. Then there is the guy who wears the Grimace costume, he is the strong man. Then there is the guy who is a convicted sex offender, he wears a trenchcoat like the matrix. And lastly, their is "The Professional", he wears a cardboard Burgerking crown and a fake muscle suit. We walk around town and knock on random doors. When the person answers, I dance and do a Jar Jar quote, then make a loud screech with an air horn. While the person is reeling from the sound, the sex offender confesses that he is a sex offender (as required by his parole). Then the grimace throws some leaves and dirt into the persons house. And lastly, Muscle King plays 'me so horny' on his boombox and we dance. We have done this to hundreds of houses. Are we some kind of kings? I don't know how?

Well, many people don't learn Spanish because this is America...where English is the primary language. Unfortunately, a lot of Mexicans don't bother to learn English either because...this is America....where you don't have to assimilate apparantly. English is a language that is useful to almost any person in any country looking to get ahead. Spanish is good for recreational use, or if you work in a business with menial labor. I know Spanish, and I'm glad I do, as it's fun to speak to my gardeners and the people that work for me, but it really doesn't serve any practical uses. ;-)

We can learn to speak other languages if we choose, but the general public can't be forced to cater to your needs.
Thats like saying "I was driving to work, and traffic was bad, so please learn to fly" It could happen in the future, but a whole nation can't change in the blink of an eye just for special little you.
Try going to mexico, ordering in english and then give them the "Learn english" line. I promise nothing bad will happen to you...... ; )

Well, just to order a hamburger is too simple, why don't you try something like jambalaya, crawfish pie and fille gumbo (like the song).
Betcha you can't do so

Interesting...I am Latina and speak English and Spanish but I have to say that people just have to speak English because it is the language here. I speak both because it is definitely an advantage.
