In really good literature it always takes a good villian to make a great hero.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Like in all best sellers, powerful heroes require powerful villains.
Satan is pure fiction and only intended to terrify you into doing as your religion dictates.
"God" wouldn't seem so powerful if he didn't have Satan to oppose him. Just like how would we know someone was handsome if we didn't have someone who wasn't, to compare him to?
Religion is simply a result of mans fear of death and his inability to explain his existence.
It's been used to control the masses and their money since time immemorial and is still alive and well today. It's the cause of all wars (we're involved in one right now), and the most succesful business in history...witness the Catholic church and the Vatican with their untold billions they've convinced their member to send them.
I believe something created all this, but unlike all those others, I make no claims to know what it is. But I sure know there's no such thing as Satan.
If you want to know what truth is, study astronomy and cosmology...things that can be proven, not silly religions that insult your intelligence.
The only truth is mathematics, the basis of everything...including mankind.

With out Satan the Christian religion would fall apart. They need Satan in order to exist. They need the perception of evil & wrong to counter balance Right & good to get you to follow their tennents.

For the time being, He is making Satan swim in liquid hot magma (puts pinky to lip in ominous, yet somewhat humorous fashion).

Rev 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Everything we know tells us that Satan's dominion over mankind and the earth has been destroyed by Christ, but that he continues to exist, deriving his power only from those who still choose to follow him.
