If the glass was filled to the brim and you emptied half, the glass would be half empty.
If the glass was bone dry and you poured in half it's volume, it's now half full.

I CAN PROVE THE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION: Put a thick piece of paper on the glass half filled with water. Hold the paper to prevent the water from spilling while you quickly turn the glass upside down and place it on a table. Slip the paper out quickly.
Try this now!
It's half full, because emptyness is relevant at this point. If you did this experinment you'll know what I mean.
You'll get your answer.

Optimist half full
Pessimist half empty
Diddy,,,,just had to do it
Had a glass it was half full
Went to the tap and took a pull
Filled it right up to the brim
Put my lips up to the glass and my tongue took a swim
After all was said and done
It looked like my thirst was completely won
You ask half full or half empty indeed
I emptied and filled according to need

The glass is half full when seen from the bottom of the glass and its half empty when seen from the top.
So, its ultimately in the person's view. If you are pessimistic, you take it positively and vice versa.

My study of Darwins Theory and Copernicus'es laws leads me to conclude that in reality the glass is actually a symbol for someone's outlook on life. When the temporal advent flux has been lost the inner space of the external auditory meatus will become infected with ghost gremlins.

half empty, but I'm still an optimist because I realize that half full is better than a quarter full!

I can't see it, if I could then maybe I could tell you. Do others responding see it. For all we know it may be one quarter full or empty. Hell there may not even be a glass.
