Breakfast:
The Most Important Meal of the Day

After 12 hours of not eating, your body deserves a break! Physiologically and psychologically it is better to space your food throughout the day. Get your body's metabolism going by eating a good breakfast each day!

Many of us don't want to take the time to eat a good breakfast. A good breakfast does not have to be time consuming - and you don't need to eat just "breakfast foods."

For a Nutritious Breakfast Include:

Fruit or Vegetable (or their juice): Choose one rich in Vitamin C such as oranges, lemons, grapefruits, cantaloupe, or tomato.
A source of Fiber: Include a good source of fiber (at least 3 grams fiber per serving). Include good sources of fiber such as: whole grain breads or muffins, whole grain cereals (bran, oatmeal, unsweetened granola, shredded wheat); brown rice, fruits and vegetables.
Protein: Include a good source of protein such as: milk, soy milk, cheese, yogurt, meat, veggie meats, fish, poultry, beans, or eggs.
In a hurry? Quick, Simple "Out the Door Breakfasts":

Peanut butter sandwich and milk
Whole grain bagel with light cream cheese
Egg sandwich
Fruit and yogurt
Banana and peanut butter on toast, milk
Cheese crackers made without hydrogenated fats, fruit juice
Cottage cheese and fruit
Blended drinks in a thermos - milk or yogurt with bananas or oranges

Blueberry pancakes with butter and syrup, crisp bacon, and patty sausage; and with orange juice and coffee. But I can't have any of it.

So I settle for a bowl of small squares of shredded wheat with skim milk and fresh blueberries, and a cup of coffee with skim milk.

What I like for breakfast and what I get are two very different things. But I'm sure I have a lot of company on that score.

I'm from the south and I dont eat this everyday, not even every week or I would be as big as a house. But when I really want to feel down home I cook; buttery cheesy grits, sausage, scrambled eggs, toast, and juice. If I feel guilty, I may throw in a few berries.

Fruity Cheerios or Special K with skim milk...yummy! If I'm on the go then I'll just eat a banana. I'm watching my weight now...not just eating junk anymore.
