The most unacceptable time is probably about after you have another degree (A.A., B.S or B.A. etc). If you don't go that path, probably about 2 years from your graduation. At that point, it shouldn't really have much reason to be on your mirror. Your rearview mirror would probably be better suited for an air freshener or dice.
Two years after graduation--you might have your friends from high school, but you SHOULD be in a different point of your life. Your tassel should be framed on your wall or in a box by that point. I personally just keep it on one of my doorknobs. It's up to you though. If you really love your school THAT much, a few comments shouldn't make too much of a difference.

I left my college tassel in my car for propbably 3 years. I would have left it longer but people started calling me a dork. I didn't graduate from high school so I couldn't put tht in my car...I got my GED and when I graduted from college I was so proud of myself I never wanted to take it down. So, keep it up for as long as you like!!!! You deserve it ;)regardless of if it is from high school or from college. Have fun!!

Let it stay as long as you want to. You graduated and to display the tassel shows a sense of pride in this accomplishment. Why not enjoy the honour. Good luck and congratulations.

Long as you want b/c most people do not have the incentive to graduate from any where, so keep that one and if ur goin to college hang that 1 up too, you should be proud

Mine was royal blue and white and was from 98. It hung from the rearview of my first car, until it had pretty much fallen apart and I'd alot most of the strands.

Keep it there as long as you want OR until you find something more important to you to hang up.

I don't think it's ever INAPPROPRIATE, but maybe a good guideline is when it's no longer representative of a major CURRENT part of you life?
