And if somebody call me that derogatory name based on my religion does that make it a hate crime?

Normally this is what fundamental Muslims call non-Muslims, so it is derogatory in one sense, hate crime by definition is committing a act of violence based on someone's creed, religion, etc.

I thought you said you were called an imbecile in your previous answer. I wouldn`t care if someone called me an infedel. I have a few choice names for them. Like I told you in the other question, a hate crime is defined as an actual act of violence.

I don't know what an "infedel" is.

If you mean "infidel", it would only be an insult if I believed it.

Therefore: not a hate crime.

(Not any more than the insults people in this forum keep slinging at each other.)

It is supposed to be an insult but I like being called that. Heathen is nice too.

Hate crime? In today's hostile climate you can't take a word without squalling? Hate crimes are physically violent.

infidel simply means unbeliever, someone who does not believe in the creator God. It is considered somewhat an insult, but it's not a hate crime.
Incidentally, christians should not be considered infidels by muslims, to do so is in violation of Quranic verse 2:62

No, I don't take it as an insult. All it means is that I don't buy into their brand of crap. Give it up with the hate crime stuff - it's just an insult in their eyes. That's all.

No, it wouldn't be a hate crime if someone called you an infidel. Oh and learn to spell the word right next time.

I believe it's an insult. That person is basically judging me, by his own convictions. There is only one Judge....and it's not them.

If it is in the Muslim sense of the word, and you are a Christian, not really.
