I had a bf that drank too much when we'd be out clubbing. It was kind of embarrassing, he'd be puking or passing out and I'd be having a blast.
So one night we locked him in the trunk of the car and went back into the club and danced until closing. Dropped him off at his house (in the front yard), and the next day he said he dreamt he had drank so much he died and was in a coffin and couldnt get up and the next thing he knew, he was laying on the wet grass.
He never drank again.
I dumped him. He wasn't any fun after that.

With one of my ex's, he wouldn't quit or even slow down on the drinking. His whole family are alcoholics. With my soon to be ex husband, I had given him the ultimatum of me or the alcohol. He picked me. The point is, you can't make someone quit drinking. All you can do is let them know how you feel and hope they stop. You can and should go to Al-anon meetings if he is drinking alot. I am dating a guy now who is a recovering alcoholic. He hasn't had a drink in years and he doesn't see the need to ever have one again. He said AA helped him alot.

No but I would express my concern in a loving way. You can't make someone stop drinking unless they go to jail. I would love them and just hope it didn't effect my relationship. If it did then I might consider a little break until things change.

I wouldn't 'make' him stop, but i would 'help' him stop. It depends, if hes drinking to cover pain or hide from the world, if its a way to cope, then i would help him to stop or slow down, but we go out once in a while and he drinks too much and completely embarrasses himself, that's alright, but if it interferes with his day, then i would.

You can't make someone stop drinking, but you can choose to leave the relationship if that's the best thing for you.

Obviously, because alcoholism is just unhealthy. But I rarely drink (I get buzzed off single pieces of tiramisu), so I wouldn't end up with a drinker, anyway.

You can't make him do anything. What you can do though is to refuse to date someone who drinks too much for your liking.

Yes. There's nothing worse than a bad habit that's ALSO unhealthy. People die from alcoholism, my uncle did. It's too awful to be left alone.

Kinda hate to tell you this but if a bf is dependent on booze, it's very unlikely that he'll quit because his gf tells him to do so.
