Such a narrow minded question

2006-12-15 13:01:40 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 3 2

I wouldn't go quite that far. I don't agree with organized religion, and don't think we have a need for it anymore. Religion was needed in a time when science couldn't give answers to the questions people asked ... now that science is catching up, religion becomes unnecessary.

Religion has been the cause of more wars and deaths than any other reason in history. It enslaves minds and abhors doubt and free thought. I would eventually like to see an end to all religion whatsoever ... (not necessarily beliefs or personal faith, but religion in an organized manner), but it'll never happen. It's nice to know it's less and less each year though ;)

However, root of all evil? No .. mankind in general gets that award. Religion is just another facet of how certain parts of mankind excuse their aggression and greed.

As an ordained minister with my own "organized religion", I can authoritatively say that it is not the religion that makes it seem to be the root of all evil. The same scam artists who run large corporations and become ambulance chasing lawyers or shady politicians, exist in religion as well. Evil exists, regardless of faith. If there is a guiding force for evil or purity for that matter, is the root question, though not perhaps yours. I personally believe there is not a creator or a devil. Don't fall prey to false prophets but also don't forget we are all capable of evil, so keep an eye on yourself as well.

I have never heard of "organized religion" before now.

I have however heard of "organized crime"!

So many movies have been made on that subject, right?

That being said, I would like to know what you had in mind when you mentioned "organized religion" please.

Then I will be able to answer your question in a more detailed fashion.

Speaking of evil, I agree that the love of money, not just money by itself, is the root of all evil.

It's certainly the root of all ORGANISED evil. I'm sure there are one or two isolated instances of evil for it's own sake, too, though.

The biggest and most insidious body of evil which effects all of our lives every hour and minute of every day in the culture of prejudice, lies and unchallenged wilful ignorance: that's religion at work. Sure enough.

not me,,, man is the root of all evil...in the same way he is the root of all that is good...religions, all religions , are built not so much to glorify the god or gods they claim to represent, but to give those in the church power over those the church can bring into they,re folds, or to frighten...this was done for a good reason hundreds and even thousands of years ago...the people needed guidance, they even needed fear, because or a lack in educational resources ,,, etc...today it is not organized religion that's gone astray its the fanatics that some people with in these religions follow...christian , Muslim.. whatever, it makes no difference, fanatics abound in all cultures/religions.. and they are and will always be the root of so many problems of this world...i hope i,ve helped you to see things from a different standing, keep questioning, keep watching.....

Religion is the key obstacle between man and God. If you are willing to keep aside the barrier of religion from your life.... then the relationship between you and your God is like a father and son..... a Creator and His creation.....

Religion and politics are the cause of all evils today. If you analyse the world incidents today with an unbiased mind, you will expressly admit it.

You do appearantly. I see it as a way to gather God's people for the greater good. I am a whole lot more effective in my contribution to the world with the help of my church and my friends there. I'd hate to see what the world would be like with too much "un-organised" religion.

Competition is the root of all evil, it is also the driving force of creation that sustains and improves all life. Religion stems from a simple desire to explain the inexplicable, it is a consequence of life not a root of anything.

I don't think it's the root of all evil, but i do see a lot of it as brainwashing, and all about control

More wars have been fought in the name of religion than anything else- but men being men we would probably have found something just as inane to go to war about cos that's what we do
