Many of the kicks that are considered flashy can also be very effective techniques if done CORRECTLY. Often, the reason many flashy kicks become low power or ineffective is the technique is improper. Also remember that many techniques are situationally dependant in use.

Some of the most effective flash kicks I have seen are as follows:

1. Flying turning back kick. This is done not vertically, but more horizontally, in the same concept as a hopping front kick is not as vertical as a jumping front kick. Kick is done as a turning motion in midair, striking with the heel. The continuous motion adds power onto the lateral kick, and drives through with the heel.

2. Jumping turning back kick - this movement has probably laid out more olympic level TKD fighters than any other kick, as far as I have seen . The jump is vertical, and the kick comes over the shoulder directly into the face of the opponent, turning and kicking with the heel while in midair. Flashy yes. Effective, clearly. Powerful, definitely enough to lay someone out.

3. Jumping spinning roundhouse - It is a very flashy kick, but I've gone through 5 boards like butter with this one. kick is done with the either the ball of the foot or the instep.

There are many other flying and jumping kicks that can be used as variations of most basic motions.

I will say though, that if your intent is to use any of these, that you become very, very efficient at them before attempting them. It is essential that before using any high flying kicks, that you understand how to set them up.

Personally, I avoid them, unless the opportunity presents itself. It is 99/100 times much safer to use a basic kick effectively, than a flashy kick which brings certain amounts of risk with it. Often these flashy kicks tend to be suicide attacks, meaning that if you miss, you run a risk of getting trounced afterwords. Usually, I prefer to use them for breaking or forms demonstration, only to show power, speed, and mastery of technique and balance.

OMGEEE...I'm an army belt in Taekqwondo!!! lol
Ok, the most flashy kick I can think of is jump front kick. You throw one of your legs up and leave it so that you have a 90 degree angle with your upper part of your leg (up to the knee) is sticking out and the bottom half (below knee) is bent down so you cant see it. Then, as soon as you land the jump, you do a kick with your other leg.
The fastest and most effective kick is front kick. It's also the simplest. All you do is kick frontwards!

hope that helps! :)

Dude would you just find a school to study a discipline already?!?

NO one here can TELL you how to do a technique, or how to perform it PROPERLY.

The ONLY way you're gonna learn how to perform ANY punching, striking, or kicking techniques effectively (ie with PROPER control, power, accuracy, speed, effectiveness etc.) is to find a local school that interests you and start taking some classes

Many of the techniques in Martial Arts are THE SAME, they're just given different names according to the nationality of the Martial Art.

the attributes of accuracy, speed, power, effectiveness and control are only PRODUCTS of good training. There isn't ONE specific technique that has (or "gives") those attributes.

It ALL depends on the INDIVIDUAL and his or her training ethics.

HOW YOU TRAIN IS HOW YOU FIGHT.

theres no such thing as a powerful flashy kick.flashy kicks are for show.most effective and possibly fastest ?inside out leg kick?breaks at least one knee and dislocates or destroys ligaments in other(i'd rather have the broken one)
PS.i would never use any type of kick where you turn your back to your opponent espescially in a real situation.

i am a taekwondo varsity player and i would suggest the following to be the most effective and fastest kicks that u may use in competition and in actual day to day self defense.

1. front kick
it is a frontal defense and offensive attack it gives a distance to you and your opponent for a follow up kick, best used in close contact and in fast abrupt manner, to the groin, or stomach area.

2. 45 kick
it is one of the easiest kick and you kick in the mid section of the body as a primary kick and can be used fast and in succession, u can interchange your foot, you can go forward or backward while kicking and is very stable stance.

3. round house kick
flexibility and surprise is a must, a kick to the head or shoulder area and is done as a follow up kick and is very effective and lethal if used correctly.

4. side kick
it is a kick that is hard to defend with and is effective, and gives a powerful kick in the head or mid section, gives distance and usually a finishing kick as it is hard to followup using such kick.

5. back kick
it is a follow up kick after a 45kick or front kick, it simply gives u a distance for your opponent to back off, and do your stance again for other kicks,

6. ax kick
used in close contact kick, if you are so close that you cannot kick effectively use this to hit the head or the shoulder of your opponent, flexibility is a must and emphasis in speed is in going down to be effective.

in actual defense, and competition, i suggest to stay away with hightly complicated and flashy moves such as flying kicks, and turning kicks such as 360 degrees etc as they tend to be very dangerous if the opponent anticipated it, and if not done correctly as it may cause injury, and be put in a compromising position. simple kicks that are straight, fast and hard would be most effective, turning kicks tend to be slower, flying kicks are dangerous. u may also use them, but sparingly and with practice.

Make any hand motion (block, feint, punch, whatever, wave at them - I've used that before) and heel to the foot. Serious.
