You have a 300 Cubic Inch Inline 6. The Hp ratings vary by year YOUR particular year was rated at 165HP and 280 Ft. Lbs of torque. NOW what most people won't tell you is your little 300 reaches MAXIMUM Torque at a whopping 1200RPM and maintains MAXIMUM torque until the 4200 RPM Mark. That's right, Your 300 is making more torque than a 460 does throughout the Majority of the powerband and especially at idle. The secret is the perfect square bore 4.00" Bore 4.00" Stroke the only other Ford gas motor with this recipe is the 400. Again teh 400 reaches MAX torque at a whopping 1400 RPM and holds it true up to about 3900RPM which is the second best torque curve of any of the Ford gas motors. less than 200 hp probably closer to 150, but it has a lot of torque, my father has a 95 F150 with the 4.9 6 cyl and a manual trans, it's a great engine

added: According to wikipedia it's 150 HP: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_F-Series

Your engine has 145 horsepower, but it has 265 lb ft torque.

I gotta tell you, that old 4.9 straight 6 was considered the "workhorse" of the industry.
It was the standard engine in all the Ford trucks,F-Series & Econoline Vans
I sold many of these trucks when they were new & I've had many of these traded in after many, many miles & after being worked to near rubble ...but guess what ...they still ran! I remember a plumber trading in a 10 year old E350 Super Cargo Van...the thing was SO beat up , from years of abuse, but it had 317,000 miles on it & still ran WELL. This plumber bought another one just like it......same engine!
My own brother sold his pick-up with 167,000 miles, only because he needed a supercab after adopting a 6 year old child & needed a back seat.
